KAREN SOLOMON: MANHUNT INTENSIFIES AFTER VETERAN OFFICER HUSBAND FOUND DE@D

A massive search is underway in Worcester, Massachusetts, for Karen Solomon, 58, after her husband, veteran Worcester Police Officer Kurt Solomon, 57, was found dead at their home early Tuesday morning.

Police responded to the Wildwood Avenue residence shortly before 5:30 a.m. on Aug. 18 after receiving a report of a person down. Kurt, a 31-year veteran of the Worcester Police Department, was found with fatal injuries. Authorities later said the injuries were caused by a sharp object.

AN ARREST WARRANT HAS NOW BEEN ISSUED

Worcester Police Chief Paul Saucier said an arrest warrant was issued for Karen Solomon on a charge of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon causing serious bodily injury.

Authorities have described her as armed and dangerous and have urged the public not to approach her if she is spotted.

 THE LAST KNOWN MOVEMENTS

Surveillance footage released by police appears to show Karen walking away from the area shortly after officers were dispatched to the home.

Emergency transmissions later obtained by local media indicate that officers reported finding blood inside the residence. A dispatcher also attempted to call back the number associated with the original report, with voicemail identifying the caller as Karen Solomon, although authorities have not publicly confirmed who made the 911 call.

Investigators have since focused heavily on Coes Pond, using dive teams, police dogs and other resources. Several recreational areas around the pond have been closed while the search continues.

A STRIKING CONTRAST

Karen Solomon is known publicly as a mental-health advocate for police officers and first responders.

She co-founded First H.E.L.P., an organization focused on supporting first responders and their families, and has written about the psychological challenges faced by members of law enforcement.

Kurt Solomon, meanwhile, was remembered by colleagues as a respected officer who had devoted more than three decades to the Worcester Police Department. He was also an Army veteran and father of two.

 WHAT WE STILL DON’T KNOW

Authorities have not publicly released a complete account of what happened inside the home or disclosed all evidence supporting the warrant.

Most importantly, Karen Solomon has not been convicted of any crime. The allegations contained in the warrant remain allegations, and investigators are still working to locate her and establish the full circumstances surrounding Kurt Solomon’s death.

A veteran officer is gone. His wife remains missing. And a search spanning Worcester and the waters around Coes Pond continues.

The biggest unanswered question now is where Karen Solomon is — and what investigators will learn when they find her.
