NANCY GUTHRIE CASE: IS A NEW M2RDER SUSPECT THE “PORCH GUY”?

NANCY GUTHRIE CASE: IS A NEW MURDER SUSPECT THE “PORCH GUY”?
A new wave of online speculation has emerged in the search for 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie, after authorities issued an arrest warrant for Alex James Barnett, a 33-year-old man wanted in connection with the murder of Tucson police cadet Carlos Ramirez.
Barnett is currently wanted by the Pima County Sheriff’s Department, which has warned that he may be armed and dangerous.
INTERNET SLEUTHS NOTICED A SIMILARITY
After police released Barnett’s photograph, social-media users began comparing his appearance, walk, build and clothing with the masked individual investigators have dubbed “Porch Guy.”
That man was captured on Nancy’s home surveillance camera around the time authorities believe she was abducted. The FBI previously described the person as approximately 5-foot-9 to 5-foot-10 with an average build.
Some online investigators have circulated side-by-side images and claimed similarities in the two men’s movements and physical appearance.
But there is a major problem with that theory.
POLICE HAVE NOT LINKED BARNETT TO NANCY’S CASE
There is currently no official evidence connecting Alex James Barnett to Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance.
The Pima County Sheriff’s Department has not announced that Barnett is “Porch Guy,” and authorities are treating the two investigations as separate matters.
That distinction is crucial.
Barnett is wanted in connection with the Carlos Ramirez murder investigation. The masked person seen outside Nancy’s home remains unidentified publicly.
WHAT INVESTIGATORS ACTUALLY KNOW ABOUT “PORCH GUY”
The FBI previously released surveillance footage showing a masked person approaching Nancy’s front door, apparently attempting to interfere with the security camera.
In one video, the person raises a gloved hand toward the camera. Another shows the individual using what appears to be a flashlight while attempting to obscure the lens with vegetation.
Those images remain among the most significant pieces of publicly released evidence in the case.
MONTHS LATER, NANCY IS STILL MISSING
Nancy was reported missing from her Tucson home on February 1, 2026. Nearly seven months later, investigators have still not publicly identified the person seen on her porch, and Nancy’s whereabouts remain unknown.
The new Barnett speculation has therefore generated enormous attention online — but a resemblance is not an identification.
THE QUESTION THAT MATTERS
Could Alex James Barnett eventually prove relevant to the Nancy Guthrie investigation?
It’s possible investigators could examine that possibility.
But right now, there is no confirmed connection.
Until authorities establish otherwise, “Barnett is Porch Guy” remains an internet theory — not a fact established by investigators.
