THE REMARKABLE STORY OF JEN BRICKER AND THE SECRET OLYMPIC SISTERHOOD

Growing up in Illinois, Jen Bricker spent her childhood gazing at posters of Olympic champion gymnast Dominique Moceanu on her bedroom wall. Like millions of young sports fans, Jen was mesmerized by Moceanu, the youngest member of the legendary U.S. women’s gymnastics team that secured gold at the 1996 Olympic Games. Jen loved her athletic style, noticed their strikingly similar features, and felt an inexplicable connection to her icon. What she could never have imagined as a child was that the hero on her wall was actually her biological sister.

Born without legs in 1987, Jen was placed for adoption immediately after birth. She was welcomed into the loving home of Sharon and Gerald Bricker, who raised her with one fundamental rule: “Never say can’t.” Embracing that mindset, Jen played sports, climbed trees, and excelled at gymnastics. Rather than limiting herself to parasports, she competed directly against able-bodied athletes in power tumbling, eventually becoming an Illinois state champion and placing fourth in her division at the AAU Junior Olympic Games.

At age sixteen, curious about her biological heritage, Jen asked her adoptive parents about her birth family. When her parents opened the official adoption paperwork, the truth was revealed—her birth surname was Moceanu. Her childhood inspiration was her older sister. After taking time to process the incredible discovery, Jen reached out to Dominique in 2007, sending a letter alongside supporting documents and photos. The long-lost sisters officially met in 2008.

By then, Jen had already forged an incredible life. She worked at Disney World, trained as a world-class aerial acrobat, performed on Britney Spears’ Circus tour, and became an international motivational speaker and author.
