John-Paul Miller is accused of stalking and harassing his estranged wife, Mica Miller, before she died in April 2024.

The South Carolina pastor’s wife is the subject of Netflix‘s three-part docuseries, Death of the Pastor’s Wife, which premiered on Aug. 26. The show chronicles their relationship, from their meeting in Solid Rock Church when she was a teenager to their wedding in 2017 and eventual separation.

It also features interviews with Mica’s friends and family, who question John-Paul’s alleged actions before her death, including placing several tracking devices on her car and releasing her nude photograph online.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office indicted John-Paul in December 2025 for alleged cyberstalking and making false statements to federal investigators. His federal trial has been postponed several times since the indictment, and he remains out on bond.

Who is John-Paul Miller?

John-Paul is a pastor from Myrtle Beach, S.C. He first met Mica when she was a teenager attending his Solid Rock Church, per Death of the Pastor’s Wife.

Mica wed her first husband, Jeremy, when she was 18; meanwhile, John-Paul was married to Alison Williams, with whom he welcomed five children, per Mica’s obituary. However, in 2015, Mica and John-Paul — who were 20 and 35 at the time, respectively — began having an affair. The couple then divorced their respective spouses and married each other two years later in November 2017.

However, their relationship was rocky from the start. Mica was diagnosed with bipolar disorder during their engagement, which her friend Erica Rahr claimed “may have been triggered by a stressful situation.”

In Death of the Pastor’s Wife, Mica’s friends and family alleged that John-Paul refused to let her sleep until they had sex, had multiple affairs and coerced Mica into sexual contact with homeless men several times.

“He would mentally torture her until she gave to him what he wanted,” Mica’s friend Bruna Pabon claimed in the docuseries.

The two separated in January 2023 and Mica filed for divorce later that year, according to WPDE. However, her siblings alleged in Death of the Pastor’s Wife that John-Paul called a mental hospital and initiated an involuntary hospitalization. She later allegedly reported to police that while she was in the hospital, John-Paul took her car, phone and laptop, which contained nude photographs of her, according to the docuseries.

The next month, Mica called police after finding her tire slashed with a piece of metal. Mechanics at her car dealership later found a tracking device on the car, per WPDE.

John-Paul declined to comment to producers of the docuseries.

On April 27, 2024, Mica died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, Robeson County Medical Examiner Dr. Richard Johnson told WPDE.

In a July 2024 interview on Banfield Tonight with NewsNation, John-Paul spoke about his initial reaction to Mica’s death, claiming that on the day of her death, he “was in Charleston with about 100 people from my kids’ school” at a soccer tournament.

“I didn’t think it was real. I thought her family had made it up and had somebody call me and say that,” he said.

However, friends and family have continued to question the circumstances surrounding Mica’s death, with an online petition claiming Mica “lost her life due to no one helping her from being harassed and excessively stalked” by John-Paul. His attorney, Russell B. Long, wrote in a May 2024 statement that the medical examiner’s finding of suicide “completely exonerates Pastor Miller of any wrongdoing.”

“Following the untimely death of Mica Miller, unfounded rumors and false accusations began circulating on social media and in various media outlets, suggesting Pastor Miller’s involvement in her demise,” Long wrote in the release, which was obtained by PEOPLE.
