FATHER SAYS 22-YEAR-OLD COLLEGE BASEBALL PLAYER WAS KILLED BY POLICE AFTER GOING TO THE WRONG HOUSE

UPPER POTTSGROVE TOWNSHIP, Pa. — A 22-year-old college baseball player was fatally shot by police after his family says he mistakenly went to the wrong house following a night out with friends.

Glenwood “Bubba” Pysher IV was killed around 12:30 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 23, in Upper Pottsgrove Township, Pennsylvania. Authorities say officers had responded to a 911 call reporting a possible attempted break-in at a residence on Snyder Road.

HIS FAMILY SAYS HE MADE A WRONG TURN

According to Pysher’s father, Glenwood Pysher Sr., his son had been out with friends celebrating a birthday.

Later that night, the group planned to continue the gathering at nearby homes. Pysher decided to walk to meet his friends but became confused in a wooded area and ended up at the wrong residence.

At approximately 12:32 a.m., Pysher was on a video call with friends and showed them where he was.

“They told him, ‘Bubba, you’re at the wrong home,’” his father told PEOPLE.

Pysher then shared his location with his friends so they could come get him. Just minutes later, police arrived.

POLICE WERE RESPONDING TO A 911 CALL

The Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office said Upper Pottsgrove Township police responded to a 911 call about a possible attempted break-in.

Officers found Pysher in the rear of the residence.

Authorities said that “an encounter ensued” and police fired at Pysher, fatally striking him. The Montgomery County Detective Bureau is investigating the incident.

Officials have not publicly explained what happened during those critical moments or what prompted the officer to fire.

Surveillance cameras at the home reportedly captured the encounter, and investigators are reviewing the footage as part of the investigation.

HIS FATHER SAYS HE WAS UNARMED

Pysher’s father said his son had been drinking that evening but did not believe he posed a threat.

He said Pysher was carrying a cellphone and a backpack with clothing and other personal items.

The family has expressed frustration over how little information they initially received about what happened.

“I get angry, I cry, I just don’t know what to do,” his father told PEOPLE. He said he wants accountability for whoever was responsible for his son’s death.

HE WAS PREPARING FOR HIS SENIOR YEAR

Pysher had recently turned 22 on Aug. 10.

He was a student at Saint Elizabeth University in New Jersey and was preparing to begin his senior year and play baseball as a catcher. He had been scheduled to move into school on Aug. 24 — just one day after the fatal encounter.

His family described him as a joyful young man who loved baseball and was especially close to his parents and three younger sisters.

His mother, Erin Pysher, remembered him as a “lovable goofball” who would come home joking with his family.

THE INVESTIGATION CONTINUES

The Montgomery County Detective Bureau is continuing to investigate the officer-involved shooting.

At this stage, authorities have confirmed that police were responding to a reported possible break-in, encountered Pysher behind the home and fired during the ensuing encounter.

The family’s account, meanwhile, is that Pysher had accidentally gone to the wrong house and was attempting to reconnect with his friends.

The surveillance footage, witness accounts and other evidence will be critical in determining what happened between those two versions of events.
