“I SAW THE WHOLE THING”: MOM AND 2-YEAR-OLD DAUGHTER KILLED BY LIGHTNING IN FRONT OF HEARTBROKEN DAD

A South Florida family was shattered in a matter of seconds Sunday afternoon when 31-year-old Kenya Glasgow and her 2-year-old daughter, Kennedi, were struck by lightning as they tried to get inside ahead of a storm.

The horrifying incident happened around 2:30 p.m. in Margate, Florida, as the family arrived at a relative’s home for a family dinner. Kenya’s husband, Kameron Glasgow, and the little girl’s twin sister, Kensli, were only feet away when the lightning struck.

“I GOT THE AFTERSHOCK”

Kameron said the family noticed the rain intensifying and decided they needed to get the children inside.

Then, without warning, lightning struck.

Kameron said he felt the electrical shock travel through the ground.

But when he turned around, he saw the devastating aftermath: his wife and daughter lying on the ground.

“To turn around and see your daughter and wife, their lifeless, is even worse,” he said.

A neighbor who witnessed the aftermath described seeing a powerful flash and an orange glow before rushing outside to help and calling 911.

 KENNEDI’S TWIN SISTER SURVIVED

The tragedy claimed one of two twin sisters.

Kennedi died alongside her mother, while her twin, Kensli, survived.

For Kameron, the loss means his surviving daughter will now grow up without her mother and without her twin sister.

He said that reality is difficult to comprehend.

Yet amid his grief, he said he knows he must continue moving forward for Kensli.

DESPERATE EFFORTS TO SAVE THEM

Emergency responders rushed to the scene and performed CPR before transporting Kenya and Kennedi to separate hospitals.

Kenya was taken to North Broward Medical Center, while Kennedi was transported to Broward Health Medical Center.

Despite the emergency efforts, both were pronounced dead shortly afterward.

The Margate Police Department continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.

 A 15-YEAR LOVE STORY ENDED IN AN INSTANT

Kameron and Kenya had been together for 15 years.

He described his wife as someone who was always willing to help others — someone who would answer the phone whenever people needed her.

He described Kennedi as an energetic little girl who loved singing and was especially fond of Benson Boone.

Those memories are now becoming part of how the family remembers them.

 A REMINDER OF HOW QUICKLY A STORM CAN TURN DEADLY

Lightning fatalities are rare, but the danger is real, particularly during thunderstorms.

The deaths of Kenya and Kennedi have shocked the Margate community because the family was doing something so ordinary: trying to get inside as a storm approached.

There was almost no time to react.

One moment, the family was arriving for dinner.

Seconds later, Kameron was watching his wife and daughter being taken away.

Kameron now faces the unimaginable task of raising Kensli without Kenya and her twin sister.

He said he is relying on his faith and trying to remain strong for the daughter who survived.

“It’s going to be OK because I have to be,” he said.
