Former Long Island Lacrosse Player, 19, Killed in Fatal Hudson Valley Head-On Crash

Peter Bonenfant, 19, a former lacrosse player for Smithtown West on Long Island, was killed in a head-on collision in New York’s Hudson Valley.

The crash occurred on the morning of August 23, 2026, on Route 28 in the town of Olive, Ulster County.

According to information released by authorities, Bonenfant was driving a Chevrolet when the vehicle crossed into the oncoming lane and collided head-on with a Mercedes driven by Philip F. Jacobus, 72.

Jacobus, a New York City-based executive in the medical supplies and healthcare sector, also died in the collision.

Investigators have not yet determined why Bonenfant’s vehicle drifted across the center line. Authorities are continuing to examine the circumstances surrounding the crash.

The deaths of both men have left their families and communities mourning as investigators work to establish what led to the fatal collision.
