Florida Jury Unanimously Recommends Death Penalty for Man Convicted in 1993 Murder of 12-Year-Old Girl

A Florida jury has unanimously recommended the death penalty for a man convicted in the 1993 murder of 12-year-old Jennifer Renee Odom, more than three decades after her death.

Jennifer disappeared on February 19, 1993, while walking home from her school bus stop. Her body was discovered six days later.

Jeffrey Norman Crum, 65, was convicted of murder, kidnapping, and sexual battery in connection with Jennifer’s death.

On August 25, 2026, the date Jennifer would have celebrated her 46th birthday, a 12-member jury voted unanimously, 12–0, to recommend that Crum receive the death penalty.

The unanimous recommendation marks another significant development in a case that has remained unresolved for decades and brought renewed attention to Jennifer’s death.

The jury’s recommendation is part of the sentencing process and is not itself the final imposition of a death sentence. Further legal proceedings will determine the ultimate sentence.

For Jennifer’s family and those who have remembered her for more than 30 years, the decision represents a significant moment in a case that began with the disappearance of a young girl on her way home in 1993.
