10-Month-Old Kentucky Baby Dies After Grandmother Allegedly Forgot Her in Hot Car

A 10-month-old Kentucky girl, Scottie Crowell, died after police said she was accidentally left inside a hot vehicle for several hours by her grandmother.

Scottie was found unresponsive inside a car in the parking lot of Owensboro Health Multicare in Madisonville, Kentucky, on August 13, 2026. Police said her grandmother, Stacey Fazenbaker, had picked up the baby that morning and was supposed to take her to daycare before going to work as a doctor.

Instead, authorities said Fazenbaker went to work with Scottie still in the back seat and entered the building at approximately 8 a.m. A weather sensor reportedly recorded an outdoor temperature of about 95°F, while temperatures inside the vehicle reached as high as 115°F.

Scottie’s father later went to the daycare to pick her up and learned that she had never been dropped off. He contacted his wife, who then alerted Fazenbaker. The grandmother and coworkers rushed outside, but it was reportedly too late to save the child.

An autopsy has been completed, although authorities said the full results could take several weeks. Kentucky Child Protective Services and police are investigating, and no criminal charges had been filed as of the latest reports.

The case remains under investigation and is expected to be presented to a grand jury after police complete their work. The allegations against Fazenbaker have not resulted in criminal charges at this time.
