Bryan Kohberger’s Plea Withdrawal Challenge Moves Toward 2027 Hearings

A judge has scheduled additional proceedings in Bryan Kohberger’s post-conviction challenge as he seeks to withdraw the guilty plea that resulted in four consecutive life sentences.

On August 26, 2026, Judge Steven Hippler scheduled a status conference for March 6, 2027, followed by an evidentiary hearing on June 17, 2027.

Kohberger pleaded guilty in July 2025 to the murders of four University of Idaho students and is currently serving four consecutive life sentences without the possibility of parole.

Through a petition for post-conviction relief, Kohberger is asking the court to allow him to withdraw his guilty plea. He alleges that his former attorney pressured him into accepting the plea and provided him with false information.

The upcoming evidentiary hearing is expected to give the court an opportunity to examine Kohberger’s claims and the evidence supporting his request.

However, the scheduling of these proceedings does not mean his guilty plea has been withdrawn or that a new trial has been granted. His convictions and life sentences remain in effect unless the court rules otherwise.
