SIX TEEN GIRLS EXPERIENCED SEIZURE-LIKE EPISODES AT THE SAME ALABAMA SCHOOL — AND IT HAS HAPPENED BEFORE

Six teenage girls at an Alabama high school reportedly experienced seizure-like episodes on the same day, leaving parents and the local community searching for answers.

The incidents happened Monday, August 24, at Colbert County High School in Leighton, Alabama.

All six students are believed to be around 14 years old, and officials said their symptoms began around roughly the same time. One student was taken to the hospital, while the other five either remained at school or went home with their parents.

IT WASN’T THE FIRST TIME

What makes the situation even more unusual is that school officials say similar episodes had occurred at the same school during the previous academic year.

Superintendent Nathan Fuller said he contacted the Alabama Department of Public Health when the episodes first began and has continued communicating with health officials.

The school district has emphasized that there is no known public health outbreak or exposure connected to the incidents.

HEALTH OFFICIALS INVESTIGATED

The Alabama Department of Public Health said it reviewed medical records involving students from the previous school year and interviewed their families.

According to the department, its medical officers consulted with state and national experts before determining that the symptoms were not related to an outbreak or exposure of public health importance.

But one major question remains unanswered.

What is causing the episodes?

Officials have not publicly identified a definitive cause.
