CHILD SECRETLY CALLED FOR HELP AS “EXTREMELY VIOLENT” FATHER CARRIED OUT FATAL FAMILY RAMPAGE
A desperate video call from a child helped alert authorities after a Florida father entered a family home and fatally attacked four people in the middle of the night.
The horrifying incident happened on March 1, 2023, at a home in Canaveral Groves, Florida.
The victims were 15-year-old Kiara Terwilliger, her mother Constance Terwilliger, 63-year-old grandmother Glenda Terwilliger and 36-year-old Michael Watson.
Two other children, ages 6 and 9, survived.
A CHILD’S CALL FOR HELP
According to authorities, one of the surviving children managed to make a video call to another person while the incident was unfolding.
The child reportedly communicated what was happening inside the home, prompting the person on the other end of the call to contact 911.
Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey previously said the caller remained connected with the child because they were concerned about the child’s safety.
The identity of the child who made the call has not been publicly disclosed.
A FATHER WITH A TROUBLED HISTORY
Authorities identified Domenico Gigante, Kiara’s father and Constance’s former partner, as the suspect.
Investigators said Gigante had broken into the residence while the family was asleep before carrying out the attack.
Sheriff Ivey described Gigante as an “extremely violent individual” with a history that included domestic violence and animal cruelty.
Court records show he had previously been convicted of aggravated assault and animal cruelty.
FOUR COUNTS OF FIRST-DEGREE MURDER
Gigante was arrested following the incident and charged with multiple offenses.
More than three years later, he has now pleaded guilty to four counts of first-degree premeditated murder, along with burglary resulting in death or bodily harm.
Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty.
They cite several aggravating factors, including the number of victims, the fact that one victim was Gigante’s own daughter and allegations that the crimes were carried out in a calculated and premeditated manner.
TWO CHILDREN SURVIVED
Amid the devastating loss, two children survived the incident.
One of them played a crucial role in bringing help to the home through the video call.
That call became a critical link between the children inside the house and the emergency response outside.
Authorities have not publicly revealed every detail surrounding the call, but it helped officers respond to the scene during the early-morning hours.
THE NEXT CHAPTER
Gigante is expected to be sentenced in late October or early November 2026.
Prosecutors’ decision to pursue the death penalty means the sentencing phase could become another major development in the case.
For the surviving family members, however, the legal proceedings come after an unimaginable loss.
Four members of their family were taken in a single night.
And amid the tragedy, the actions of one surviving child — reaching out through a video call for help — became a crucial moment that brought authorities to the home.
A frightened child’s call ultimately helped bring the outside world into a terrifying situation unfolding behind closed doors.
