SHE WAS A FORMER BEAUTY QUEEN — FIVE MONTHS AFTER HER WEDDING, HER HUSBAND AND MOTHER-IN-LAW WERE CHARGED

Twisha Sharma had once stood beneath the spotlight.

She was a former beauty pageant winner, a model and an actress who had built a public profile long before marriage.

Then, in December 2025, she married lawyer Samarth Singh after the two reportedly met through a dating app.

Five months later, Twisha was found hanging at her marital home in Bhopal, India.

She was 33.

Now, months after her death, India’s Central Bureau of Investigation has filed charges against her husband and mother-in-law — turning a tragic newlywed story into a case centered on allegations of prolonged mental cruelty inside the marriage.

But the investigation has also produced a complicated picture, with the accused denying wrongdoing and a second autopsy finding no physical injuries suggesting an assault.

THE MARRIAGE THAT LASTED ONLY MONTHS

Twisha met Samarth through a dating app in 2024.

The relationship eventually led to marriage in December 2025.

To the outside world, it was the beginning of a new chapter.

But according to the CBI’s investigation, the relationship later became increasingly difficult.

Samarth, a lawyer, is accused of subjecting Twisha to mental cruelty and using derogatory language toward her.

His mother, Giribala Singh, a retired district judge, is accused of encouraging her son to treat Twisha in a similar way.

The CBI alleges that the alleged psychological pressure continued over time and ultimately contributed to Twisha taking her own life.

Both Samarth and Giribala have denied the allegations.

THEN TWISHA BECAME PREGNANT

One of the most contentious parts of the case concerns Twisha’s pregnancy.

Her family alleges that tensions escalated after she became pregnant in April.

According to their account, Twisha was accused of being unfaithful and was pressured into ending the pregnancy.

Her mother-in-law has disputed that version of events, saying Twisha wanted the abortion herself.

The conflicting accounts have become an important part of the wider dispute surrounding the marriage.

At this stage, those allegations remain contested.

THE NIGHT EVERYTHING CHANGED

On May 12, Twisha was found at her husband’s home in Bhopal.

Her in-laws reportedly took her to a nearby hospital, where doctors pronounced her dead.

Police initially investigated the case as a suspected suicide.

No suicide note was reportedly recovered.

Her family, however, questioned what had happened inside the home and raised allegations of abuse and possible foul play.

That prompted further scrutiny of the circumstances surrounding her death.

A SECOND AUTOPSY ADDED ANOTHER TWIST

Twisha’s family requested another examination because they remained suspicious about the circumstances.

The second autopsy reportedly concluded that she had died by suicide and found no injuries indicating physical assault or a struggle.

That finding did not end the investigation.

Instead, investigators focused increasingly on the alleged psychological treatment Twisha had experienced before her death.

The CBI ultimately charged Samarth and Giribala with abetment to suicide and cruelty.

The agency has alleged that the ongoing mental pressure left Twisha with no viable way forward.

Those accusations have not been proven in court.

HER FAMILY TOLD A VERY DIFFERENT STORY

Twisha’s relatives have alleged that dowry demands were part of the conflict.

They say she experienced severe emotional distress and mistreatment during the marriage.

The allegations have brought renewed attention to India’s long-running problem with dowry-related harassment.

Dowry is prohibited by law in India, although the practice continues in some communities and has been linked to thousands of reported deaths each year.

The CBI has reportedly kept aspects of the investigation into alleged dowry demands and possible dowry-related offences open.

That means the legal story surrounding Twisha’s marriage is not finished.

THE MOTHER-IN-LAW’S DEFENSE

Giribala has offered a dramatically different account.

She has reportedly alleged that Twisha struggled with drug addiction and that she wanted to end the pregnancy.

Twisha’s family disputes that characterization.

The competing accounts illustrate why the case has attracted so much attention: two sides are presenting fundamentally different pictures of what happened inside the household during the final months of Twisha’s life.

The courts will ultimately have to assess the evidence behind those claims.

FROM PAGEANTS TO THE HEADLINES

Before her marriage, Twisha had already experienced life in the public eye.

She won the Miss Pune pageant in 2012 and later appeared in a Telugu-language film.

She also held an MBA and had worked in marketing and communications, according to reports.

Her public image was therefore very different from the private crisis described by investigators and relatives.

That contrast has made the case even more haunting.

A woman who once appeared on stage and in films was suddenly at the center of a major criminal investigation involving the family she had married into only months earlier.

THE HUSBAND AND MOTHER-IN-LAW ARE NOW IN CUSTODY

The CBI filed a nearly 1,000-page chargesheet against Samarth and Giribala in August.

Both are facing allegations related to cruelty and abetment to suicide.

They remain in judicial custody and deny wrongdoing.

The chargesheet does not represent a conviction.

The prosecution will still have to establish its allegations through the legal process.

And the most important unanswered question remains the same:

What really happened inside Twisha Sharma’s marriage during those final five months?

The second autopsy found no physical evidence of an assault.

But investigators say the absence of physical injuries does not answer their allegations of psychological cruelty.

Twisha’s family says she was under enormous pressure.

Her in-laws reject that account.

And now, with formal charges filed, the private conflict surrounding a five-month marriage has become a public courtroom battle.

Twisha entered that marriage hoping to begin a new chapter.

Five months later, her life had ended — and the people she had married into were facing serious criminal allegations.

The truth will now have to be determined in court.
