Judge Denies Caleb Flynn’s Request to Move Ohio Trial

An Ohio judge has rejected a defense request to move Caleb Flynn’s upcoming trial out of Miami County, despite arguments that extensive media coverage and online discussion could make it difficult to seat an impartial jury.

On August 25, 2026, Judge Jeannine Pratt of the Miami County Court of Common Pleas denied the defense motion seeking a change of venue. Flynn’s attorneys argued that the case had received significant public attention, raising concerns that potential jurors in Miami County may already have formed opinions about the case.

The judge denied the motion without prejudice, meaning the defense could renew its request if jury selection demonstrates that an adequately impartial jury cannot be found locally.

Jury Selection to Take Place in Larger Courtroom

Flynn’s trial is currently scheduled to begin on September 17, 2026. Jury selection will be conducted in a larger courtroom within Miami County to accommodate the process.

The court’s decision leaves open the possibility of revisiting the venue issue if circumstances during jury selection show that securing an objective jury is not possible.

Jury Sequestration Request Also Denied

Judge Pratt also denied a request from prosecutors to sequester the jury throughout the trial.

However, the judge did not completely rule out sequestration in the future. The court may reconsider the issue if developments during the proceedings create concerns about outside influence or otherwise threaten the fairness of the trial.

For now, the case will remain in Miami County, with jury selection and the September 17 trial date moving forward as scheduled. The defense retains the option of seeking a renewed change of venue if jury selection reveals significant difficulties in finding impartial jurors.
