A two-year-old bull terrier named King was found in an extremely poor condition after concerns were raised about his welfare.

When RSPCA Animal Rescue Officer Thomas Hall arrived at his owners’ home in September, he was immediately alarmed by King’s condition. The dog was severely underweight, with his ribs, spine and pelvis clearly visible, little muscle or body fat, and pressure wounds on parts of his body.

At a veterinary surgery, King was given a body condition score of just 1 out of 5, with vets finding widespread muscle loss. When food and water were offered, he ate and drank immediately.

Vets concluded that King’s condition had likely developed over at least four weeks because he had not been receiving enough food.

His owners, Oliver Turiccki and Sarah Pearce, later signed King over to the RSPCA, giving him the chance to receive the care he desperately needed.

And remarkably, King began to recover.

Within just a few weeks, he gained weight and started rebuilding his strength. His story eventually took a much happier turn when he was placed in a loving new home.

RSPCA officer Thomas Hall said the case had been “really frustrating and sad” because King had been badly let down, but he was delighted to see how much the dog had changed after being rescued.

For King, the future now looks very different. After enduring a difficult beginning, he finally has what every dog deserves — a safe home, loving people around him, and the chance to simply be a happy dog.

As the investigation continues, animal lovers everywhere are demanding accountability and justice for every life affected by this tragedy.

Meanwhile, Oliver Turiccki and Sarah Pearce would have to face multiple offences relating to the harm and suffering caused to King as a result of the case.
