A NEWBORN BABY’S DEATH HAS PUT AN ENTIRE FAMILY IN THE DOCK — AND FOUR ADULTS FACING MURDER CHARGES ARE LINKED BY ONE FAMILY TIE

A newborn baby girl was found in an outbuilding in Sheffield — and prosecutors say four adults connected through one family are now facing murder charges in a case that has shocked the community.

Andrea Skopova, 20, has been charged alongside Peter Horvath Jr, 19, and his parents, Peter Horvath Sr, 38, and Nina Horvathova, 37, following the discovery of Baby S in Sheffield on August 30, 2026.

All four defendants are Slovakian nationals and are also charged with causing or allowing the death of a child and perverting the course of justice.

A 15-year-old girl has been separately charged with perverting the course of justice and cannot legally be named. Two other women, aged 26 and 37, were arrested on suspicion of murder and remain on bail as the investigation continues.

THE FAMILY CONNECTION AT THE CENTER OF THE CASE

The court heard that Skopova is Baby S’s mother.

She is also the girlfriend of Peter Horvath Jr, who is the son of Peter Horvath Sr and Nina Horvathova.

Prosecutors told the court that Horvath Jr is not believed to be the baby’s father, and the identity of the father remains unknown.

That family connection means the four adults now appearing in court are closely linked to one another — with the baby’s mother, her boyfriend and his parents all facing the same serious charges.

WHAT HAPPENED TO BABY S?

According to the prosecution, Baby S was born in the early hours of August 30 at an address in Sheffield.

The baby had been born at 37 weeks.

Shortly afterward, Skopova went to hospital. Medical staff became concerned for the infant’s safety and contacted police shortly after 5 a.m.

Officers initially attended the reported address but did not find the baby there.

They then went to an address in the Wincobank area, where Baby S was discovered inside an outbuilding.

The court heard that the newborn was found wrapped in towelling and inside a blue bag, on top of a washing machine.

A post-mortem examination later found 33 injuries from 15 separate stabbings, affecting the baby’s face and torso, including the front and back.

Prosecutor Luke Hopkinson told the court that medical evidence indicated the baby was alive when the injuries were inflicted.

FOUR ADULTS NOW FACE THE SAME MURDER CHARGE

Skopova, Horvath Jr, Horvath Sr and Horvathova have all been charged with murder.

They also face allegations of causing or allowing the death of a child and perverting the course of justice by allegedly taking steps to conceal what had happened.

Police have recovered a potential weapon, which remains subject to examination, and investigators have also obtained CCTV footage as they continue piecing together the events surrounding Baby S’s final hours.

A FIFTH DEFENDANT — AND MORE QUESTIONS

A 15-year-old girl has been charged separately with perverting the course of justice.

Because of her age, she cannot be named.

She appeared alongside the four adults in court, where members of the defendants’ family were present in the public gallery.

The hearing was emotional, with Skopova and the teenager reportedly crying throughout the proceedings.

THE CASE IS FAR FROM OVER

All five defendants have been remanded in custody.

Their next hearing is scheduled for October 2, 2026.

A trial has been set to begin on April 12, 2027, and is expected to last between six and seven weeks.

South Yorkshire Police described the investigation as complex and thanked members of the community for their support.

The Crown Prosecution Service has also stressed that the proceedings are active and that all defendants have the right to a fair trial. None of the allegations against them have been proved in court.

For now, investigators are still working to establish exactly what happened to Baby S — and what role, if any, each person accused played in the events surrounding the newborn’s death.
