11-Year-Old New York Boy Dies in Tragic Go-Kart Pond Accident Days Before Middle School

An 11-year-old New York boy has died after a tragic go-kart accident that occurred just days before he was due to begin middle school.

Parker Mitchell, of Greece, New York, was involved in the accident on September 6, 2026, in the Town of Darien in Genesee County.

Parker was driving a go-kart with his 8-year-old sister when the vehicle overturned and plunged into a pond, trapping the young boy underwater.

His sister was able to escape from the overturned vehicle on her own. She was examined by medical personnel at the scene and did not require the same emergency transport as her brother.

Rescuers pulled Parker from the water and rushed him to Strong Memorial Hospital for treatment.

Despite efforts to save him, Parker later died from the injuries he sustained in the accident.

The tragedy came just days before Parker was expected to begin middle school, turning what should have been an exciting time for his family into a period of unimaginable grief.

Parker’s death has left his family and community mourning the loss of a young boy whose life was cut short far too soon.

The circumstances surrounding the go-kart accident remain under investigation.
