⚖️ TWO DEATH SENTENCES. YEARS OF LEGAL FIGHTS. STILL NO EXECUTION DATE.

Wade Wilson was sentenced to death for the 2019 murders of two women in Cape Coral, Florida.

But despite receiving two death sentences, Wilson has not been executed.

And there is an important reason why.

A death sentence is not the same thing as an immediate execution.

After a capital defendant is sentenced, the case enters a long legal process in which courts review the conviction and the death sentences for possible legal errors.

Wilson’s case is still part of that process.

His direct death-penalty appeal was filed with the Florida Supreme Court in 2024 and remains listed as an open case.

Then, on February 5, 2026, Wilson’s case came before the Florida Supreme Court for oral arguments.

His attorneys challenged his death sentences on several grounds.

But the hearing took an unusual turn.

According to reporting from WBBH, Wilson’s attorney acknowledged that recent court rulings had undermined the arguments his team intended to make, and the challenge was effectively cut short.

That still did not mean an execution could suddenly happen the next day.

The legal process has additional stages.

And one of the biggest questions surrounding Wilson’s case has involved Florida’s 2023 change to its death-penalty law.

Wilson committed the murders in 2019.

But when his jury considered the death penalty years later, Florida’s newer law allowed a death recommendation without requiring all 12 jurors to agree.
