A week-old baby was killed in a devastating attack at his family home in Indiana — and the latest court development has brought the heartbreaking case back into the spotlight.

A newborn baby was just seven days old when a family tragedy unfolded inside a rural Indiana home.

Baby Jason Anthony Weaver was attacked by the family’s pet dog, a five-year-old Husky and Pit Bull mix named Chomp, in Markle, Huntington County.

Now, months after the devastating incident, Jason’s father has been sentenced to 16 years in prison following a plea agreement connected to the circumstances surrounding his son’s death.

THE HORRIFYING DISCOVERY

According to police reports cited by local media, Jason’s father, Austin Kinsey, said he had been playing video games in the same room as his newborn son before briefly leaving to speak with other family members.

A short time later, Jason’s grandfather, Timothy Kinsey, heard noises coming from the room.

When he went inside, police said he found Chomp dragging the infant.

Relatives immediately called for emergency help.

Officers and emergency responders rushed to the home and attempted CPR, but Jason could not be saved.

THE AUTOPSY REVEALED THE EXTENT OF THE ATTACK

An autopsy later documented 180 bite wounds on the seven-day-old baby.

Jason also suffered devastating internal injuries, including rib fractures, brain hemorrhaging and injuries to his lungs.

The details shocked investigators and the community as authorities continued examining what happened inside the home.

THE DOG HAD A HISTORY OF AGGRESSIVE BEHAVIOR

Chomp had reportedly shown aggressive or jealous behavior before the fatal incident.

Family members had previously described the dog as gentle around Jason, while also acknowledging that it could become aggressive around other animals.

Following the attack, Chomp was euthanized and the other dogs at the property were removed.

QUESTIONS ABOUT THE HOME

Investigators also described extremely poor conditions inside the property.

Court documents cited by The Sun said the home contained large amounts of trash, dirty dishes and clothing, while insects were also reportedly found around the property.

The Huntington County Health Department subsequently determined that the residence was not fit for habitation and ordered the occupants to leave.

JASON’S FATHER SENTENCED TO 16 YEARS

Austin Kinsey was initially charged with multiple counts of neglect as well as an offense involving harboring a non-immunized dog that caused an injury.

Under a plea agreement, the highest-level neglect charge was dropped.

He was then sentenced to 16 years in prison on Monday.

The case does not end there.

Jason’s mother, Violet Weaver, has a change-of-plea hearing scheduled later this month, while cases involving other family members remain active.
