THE VOICE UK UNVEILS SHOCK ‘LOCKDOWN’ TWIST AFTER TOM JONES EXIT — FANS FACE A MAJOR CHANGE TO THE BLIND AUDITIONS

The Voice UK is heading into a dramatic new era, with ITV introducing a brand-new “Lockdown Button” that will completely change what happens when a contestant wins over all four coaches.

The major format change comes as the long-running ITV talent show undergoes a huge overhaul following the departure of Sir Tom Jones, alongside fellow coaches Danny Jones and Tom Fletcher.

THE “LOCKDOWN” BUTTON CHANGES EVERYTHING

According to reports, the new button will be used when a singer achieves the coveted four-chair turn during the Blind Auditions.

Under the traditional format, once all four coaches turn their chairs, the singer gets to hear the coaches’ pitches before deciding which team to join.

That moment is now set to change.

With the new Lockdown Button, one coach can reportedly press the button and immediately secure the contestant for their team.

That means the singer could lose the chance to make the final choice themselves.

The new feature replaces the Rewind Button, which was introduced during the current series but will not return for the next run.

The format shake-up comes just days after Sir Tom Jones publicly addressed his departure from the programme.

The 86-year-old music legend said ITV had made the decision to remove him from the judging panel and claimed he had not wanted to leave.

Jones said he loved the show and appreciated its audience, while explaining that ITV had cited financial difficulties involving insurance.

ITV subsequently confirmed that Jones would no longer be a full-time coach for Series 15, while saying discussions about his possible involvement in another capacity were continuing.

The broadcaster later officially unveiled its new lineup, thanking Jones for his years on the programme and describing him as an “irreplaceable” part of The Voice UK.

The next series will feature a dramatically different panel.

Cheryl and Aitch will make their coaching debuts, joining returning coaches Kelly Rowland and will.i.am.

The changes also extend beyond the red chairs.

Longtime presenter Emma Willis is leaving the programme, with Alesha Dixon and Stacey Solomon taking over as the new presenting duo.

ITV has confirmed that Series 15 will air in 2027.

WHAT WILL HAPPEN TO FOUR-CHAIR TURNS NOW?

The four-chair turn has traditionally been one of the most exciting moments of the Blind Auditions.

A contestant who manages to convince every coach to turn has normally held the power to choose their preferred team after hearing what each coach has to offer.

The Lockdown Button changes that dynamic.

Now, the drama could come from wondering which coach will hit the button first — and whether the singer will still have any say in where they begin their journey.

It could make four-chair turns even more unpredictable for both contestants and viewers.

THE VOICE UK ENTERS A NEW ERA

The changes mark one of the biggest shake-ups in The Voice UK since the programme launched.

A new coaching lineup, new hosts and a completely different Blind Audition mechanic mean viewers will see a very different version of the familiar competition when Series 15 arrives.

And with the Rewind Button gone and the Lockdown Button taking its place, one thing is already clear:

The next four-chair turn may not end the way fans expect.

For a show built around giving singers the power to choose their coach, the biggest question now is whether the new twist will leave contestants — and viewers — wondering who really has control of the decision.
