A WILDFIRE REVEALED A SIX-YEAR SECRET — MISSING MUM JOANNE SHEEN, 44, IDENTIFIED FROM REMAINS FOUND IN LONDON

A six-year mystery surrounding the disappearance of a mother-of-three has taken a heartbreaking turn after human remains uncovered in west London were formally identified as Joanne Sheen.

Joanne, 44, disappeared in December 2019 after travelling from Fareham in Hampshire towards her home city of Southampton.

For years, her family was left without answers.

Now police have confirmed that the remains discovered in London belong to Joanne — and a man has been arrested as detectives investigate her death as murder.

REMAINS DISCOVERED AFTER A WILDFIRE

The breakthrough began on August 12, 2026, when police were called after a member of the public discovered bones in shrubland near Padstow Walk in Feltham, west London.

The area had recently been affected by a wildfire, which cleared some of the vegetation.

The Metropolitan Police initially launched a murder investigation after forensic examination confirmed the remains were human.

At the time, detectives believed the remains belonged to a woman aged approximately 25 to 45, but her identity was unknown.

Extensive forensic examination and DNA testing eventually provided the devastating answer: the remains were those of Joanne Sheen.

Her family has been informed and is being supported by specialist officers.

JOANNE HAD BEEN MISSING SINCE 2019

Joanne was last seen on December 5, 2019, after travelling from Fareham towards Southampton.

Her family formally reported her missing in February 2020.

The disappearance triggered a lengthy investigation involving thousands of enquiries.

According to Hampshire Police, detectives have pursued more than 4,000 lines of enquiry, taken more than 300 statements and carried out detailed searches at more than 10 addresses and numerous water vessels.

Specialist teams also searched waterways and woodland around Southampton.

Despite the extensive investigation, Joanne remained missing for more than six years.

A MAN ARRESTED AS MURDER INVESTIGATION CONTINUES

Following the identification, Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary took over the investigation from the Metropolitan Police.

On September 17, detectives arrested a 56-year-old man from Southampton on suspicion of conspiracy to commit murder.

He remained in police custody while enquiries continued.

Police have not publicly identified the man or established in court that he was responsible for Joanne’s death.

The investigation remains active.

“A SIGNIFICANT DEVELOPMENT”

Detective Chief Inspector Toby Elcock, from Hampshire Police’s Major Crime Team, described the discovery as a significant development in what has been a long and complex investigation.

He said identifying Joanne’s remains could at least begin to provide answers for her family after years of uncertainty.

Investigators are now working to establish exactly what happened to Joanne and how she came to be in Feltham, almost 60 miles from where she was last seen.

Police have appealed to anyone who may have information about Joanne’s movements before her disappearance — even information that may seem insignificant — to come forward.

HER FAMILY HAS WAITED YEARS FOR ANSWERS

For Joanne’s loved ones, the confirmation brings both heartbreak and an end to the uncertainty that has lasted for almost seven years.

Her daughters Hayley and Layla previously described their mother as a “lovely, loving person.”

Joanne’s close friend Rachel Roussel, who knew her for 16 years, also paid tribute to her as a devoted mother whose daughters were her top priority.

Rachel said Joanne had a magnetic personality, loved music and would do anything for the people around her.

She said the identification meant Joanne could finally be brought home and her daughters could have a place to remember and lay her to rest.

£20,000 REWARD REINSTATED

Crimestoppers has reinstated a £20,000 reward for information that could help the investigation.

Police are particularly interested in anyone who remembers Joanne’s movements around Southampton or London in 2019, or who may know how she came to be in the Feltham area.

The discovery of her remains has answered one devastating question — but many others remain.

Detectives are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding Joanne’s death and are urging anyone with information to come forward.

After years of uncertainty, her family finally knows what happened to Joanne.

Now they are waiting for the rest of the answers.
