Born in Utah in 2002, Kendra and Maliyah Herrin entered the world with an extraordinary connection. Joined at the torso, the American twin sisters shared a pelvis, abdominal wall, liver, large intestine, and a single functioning kidney. Their rare condition posed immense medical challenges, presenting their family and surgical team with unprecedented clinical decisions.

In August 2006, at just four years old, Kendra and Maliyah made medical history by undergoing a groundbreaking separation surgery that lasted more than 15 hours. They became the first conjoined twins sharing a single kidney to successfully undergo such a complex procedure. Following the surgery, Kendra retained the original shared kidney, while Maliyah began dialysis treatments to survive until a suitable organ donor could be found.

In 2007, their mother donated one of her own kidneys to Maliyah, granting her a crucial chance at recovery. Years later, Maliyah underwent a second kidney transplant to ensure her long-term health. Despite the physical hardships, numerous procedures, and extensive rehabilitation required throughout their upbringing, both sisters demonstrated remarkable courage and determination.
