WADE WILSON REMAINS ON DEATH ROW AS HIS LEGAL BATTLE CONTINUES

Wade Steven Wilson remains on Florida’s death row more than two years after he was convicted of killing two women in Cape Coral, with his case continuing through the state’s appellate system.

Wilson was convicted in June 2024 of two counts of first-degree murder in connection with the deaths of Kristine Melton, 35, and Diane Ruiz, 43.

The two women were killed on October 7, 2019, in separate incidents in Lee County, Florida.

In August 2024, Wilson was sentenced to death for both murders.

He is currently incarcerated at Union Correctional Institution in Raiford, Florida, which houses male inmates sentenced to death.

HIS DEATH SENTENCE REMAINS UNDER APPEAL

Wilson’s case is before the Supreme Court of Florida under case number SC2024-1345.

The court’s official case record identifies it as a mandatory review of his death-penalty convictions. The case remains listed as open.

The Florida Supreme Court heard oral arguments in the case on February 5, 2026.

According to the court’s video archive, Wilson’s direct appeal raised seven issues seeking reversal of his death sentences.

However, parts of his legal challenge have subsequently been abandoned.

In February 2026, Wilson’s attorneys halted a separate challenge concerning the application of Florida’s death-penalty law after recent court rulings affected the arguments they intended to pursue.

The withdrawal did not result in an execution date being set.

LIFE ON FLORIDA’S DEATH ROW

Wilson’s current life is markedly different from the period when his case attracted widespread public attention.

At Union Correctional Institution, death-row prisoners are held under strict correctional rules, with limited movement and controlled contact with people outside the facility. Reporting has described Wilson as spending much of his time in his cell.

His case has nevertheless remained the subject of considerable public fascination, particularly following documentary coverage of the murders and his 2024 trial.

That attention has included extensive discussion online about Wilson’s appearance, tattoos and the unusual level of public interest surrounding the case.

Those aspects, however, are separate from the legal proceedings that continue to determine the status of his convictions and death sentences.

NO EXECUTION DATE HAS BEEN SET

Despite being sentenced to death more than two years ago, Wilson does not currently have a confirmed execution date.

His appellate proceedings remain an important part of the case. The Florida Supreme Court’s official docket continues to list the appeal as open, while recent filings show changes to his legal representation and ongoing activity in the case.

A May 2026 docket entry, for example, records the court’s approval of the withdrawal of one of Wilson’s attorneys as co-counsel.

For now, Wilson remains incarcerated on death row while the legal process continues.

A CASE THAT CONTINUES TO DRAW ATTENTION

Wilson’s case has remained in the public spotlight because of the circumstances surrounding the two killings, his highly publicized trial and the subsequent legal challenges to his death sentences.

But the next major development will come through the courts.

Until the appellate process is resolved and the appropriate legal steps are completed, there is no confirmed date for Wilson’s execution.

For now, the official record remains clear: Wade Wilson is alive, incarcerated on Florida’s death row, and his death sentences remain subject to ongoing legal proceedings.
