A family in Kalapathar has been left devastated after their newborn son, who was being cared for in a NICU, developed a worrying change to his nose that later resulted in part of it becoming detached.

According to police, Arshiya Unnisa Khan gave birth to a baby boy on June 8. The newborn was admitted to the NICU for phototherapy on doctors’ advice.

While he was receiving care, his parents noticed rashes appearing on his nose and immediately informed the medical team. They were reportedly told that the rash would heal.

But days later, the family’s fears grew.

On June 22, they noticed that a portion of their tiny son’s nose had become detached and the affected area had turned black.

The parents reportedly raised the issue with the hospital, where doctors allegedly acknowledged that a mistake had occurred and promised to cover the expenses of further treatment.

The hospital management then arranged for a plastic surgeon to examine the baby. According to the family, the specialist said that a cap could be placed over the affected area.

For the parents, however, the situation was far more than a medical concern. They were watching their newborn son go through an experience they had never imagined when they welcomed him into the world.

“We trusted the doctors to take care of our little boy,” the family said. “All we wanted was for him to be safe and healthy. Seeing what happened to him has been incredibly painful for us.”

The family’s distress reportedly deepened when they alleged that medication was being denied and that they were not being provided with the baby’s medical reports.

Feeling increasingly helpless and upset, the child’s father, Imran Khan, eventually approached police and lodged a complaint.

For the family, the journey has become one of fear, uncertainty and determination as they continue seeking answers and appropriate care for their son.

Their greatest hope now is simple: that their baby receives the treatment he needs and can begin his life surrounded by his parents’ love rather than hospital worries.

“We just want our child to get better,” the family said. “He is so small, and he deserves every chance to grow up healthy and happy.”
