TOM JONES BREAKS SILENCE AFTER THE VOICE UK EXIT AS HE REVEALS HE “DID NOT WANT TO LEAVE” AFTER 15 YEARS

Sir Tom Jones has broken his silence after being dropped from The Voice UK, revealing that he did not want to leave the long-running singing competition.

The 86-year-old music legend said ITV made the decision to remove him from the coaching panel and claimed the reason initially given to him was a financial difficulty involving insurance.

The shock announcement has triggered a wave of reaction from viewers, with thousands of fans signing a petition calling for Jones to return.

Jones addressed his departure in a statement shared on social media after reports initially suggested that he had simply left the programme.

He made clear that this was not his decision.

The singer said he loved the show and appreciated its audience, adding that ITV had made the decision and informed him only recently.

According to Jones, the explanation he was initially given involved “financial difficulty with insurance.”

He also said ITV had subsequently described the change as a desire to “refresh” the programme with a new coaching line-up.

Jones further revealed that he had been offered a reduced role involving an appearance on the programme rather than taking part as a coach from the beginning.

He said he was not happy with that arrangement.

ITV ANNOUNCES A MAJOR NEW LINE-UP

ITV has confirmed that Jones will not return as a full-time coach for Series 15, which is scheduled to air in 2027.

The new coaching panel will feature Cheryl, Aitch, Kelly Rowland and will.i.am.

Cheryl and Aitch are joining the programme as new coaches, while Kelly Rowland returns for another series alongside will.i.am.

The broadcaster has also announced a change in presenters.

Alesha Dixon and Stacey Solomon will take over presenting duties for the next series.

ITV thanked Jones for his years on the programme, describing him as “irreplaceable” and praising the memorable moments he created with contestants and audiences.

TOM JONES HAD BEEN PART OF THE SHOW SINCE 2012

Jones has been associated with The Voice UK since its launch in 2012, although he was absent from one series before returning.

Over the years, the Welsh singer became one of the show’s most recognisable coaches.

His departure therefore represents one of the biggest changes to the programme since its move to ITV.

The latest overhaul will also see original coaches Tom Fletcher and Danny Jones leave the coaching panel.

FANS LAUNCH PETITION FOR HIS RETURN

Following the announcement, supporters launched a petition calling on ITV to reinstate Jones.

The Change.org petition had collected more than 61,000 verified signatures by September 23, according to the petition page.

Jones later thanked fans for their support, acknowledging the messages and petitions that had appeared following the announcement.

The petition itself represents the views of its supporters and does not indicate that ITV intends to reverse its decision.

ITV’S POSITION

ITV has not adopted Jones’s description of the situation as being “fired” in its official announcement.

Instead, the broadcaster presented the change as a new line-up for Series 15 and thanked Jones for his contribution to the programme.

A spokesperson for The Voice UK also said the broadcaster continued to discuss with Jones and his team whether he could have some involvement in a future series, although he would no longer be a full-time coach for Series 15.

That leaves open the possibility of some form of future appearance, but there is currently no confirmation that Jones will return as a regular coach.

A NEW ERA FOR THE VOICE UK

The next series will therefore look very different.

Jones will no longer occupy one of the famous red chairs, while Cheryl and Aitch will make their coaching debuts and Kelly Rowland returns alongside will.i.am.

With new presenters also taking over, Series 15 is set to mark a significant reset for the ITV talent show.

For now, however, one thing is clear: Tom Jones says leaving The Voice UK was not what he wanted — and his exit has sparked a major reaction from fans.
