Just one month after coming into the world, little Pipo is already facing a journey that no parent ever imagines for their newborn.

Pipo was born with Apert syndrome, a rare genetic condition that caused some of the bones in his skull to join together too early, while his fingers and toes developed joined together.

Now, in just a few weeks, the tiny baby is due to undergo the first of several major operations — and his family is doing everything possible to make sure he can receive the treatment he needs.

The first procedure will focus on Pipo’s skull. Doctors say the surgery is essential to create enough room for his growing brain and allow it to develop as safely as possible.

But that will only be the beginning.

Once he has recovered, Pipo will face further operations on his hands and feet. These procedures are intended to give him greater use of his fingers, helping him one day hold objects, play, write and become more independent as he grows.

For his parents, these surgeries are about far more than medical treatment. They represent their hopes for their little boy’s future.

“Our greatest dream is simply to give Pipo every opportunity we can,” his family said. “We want him to grow, learn, play and become as independent as possible. We know the road ahead will not be easy, but we will be beside him every step of the way.”
