TRACY SHAW BREAKS DOWN IN TEARS AS BREAST CANCER BATTLE TAKES ITS TOLL
Former Coronation Street star Tracy Shaw has opened up about the emotional and physical toll of her breast cancer treatment, admitting that the journey has become increasingly difficult as she continues chemotherapy.
The 53-year-old actress, best known for playing Maxine Peacock on the ITV soap from 1995 to 2003, was diagnosed with breast cancer in April after discovering a lump.
Since then, Shaw has kept followers updated on her treatment through social media, documenting both the difficult side effects and the moments that have helped her remain positive.
She has now undergone several rounds of chemotherapy, with reports confirming that her fourth round took place in August. Shaw previously described that cycle as particularly difficult, saying it had “hit hard” and left her feeling extremely unwell.
Her treatment has also been complicated by the impact of chemotherapy on her body. In earlier updates, Shaw spoke about painful and distressing side effects while continuing to attend treatment and meet with her medical team.
The actress has also revealed that her cancer is currently inoperable because her tumours have not shrunk enough, meaning doctors are continuing with treatment in an effort to reduce their size before surgery can be considered.
For Shaw, the uncertainty has made even ordinary physical sensations frightening.
She has spoken emotionally about how every headache, ache or unusual “twinge” can trigger fear that something may have changed, while she tries to focus on getting through one stage of treatment at a time.
In a particularly emotional update, Shaw acknowledged how overwhelming the road ahead feels, describing it as a “mountain” she has to climb.
Despite the difficult moments, she has repeatedly tried to share positive experiences with her followers as well as the reality of treatment.
After her fourth round of chemotherapy, she wrote that she had chosen to show moments of joy in the hope that they could bring some light to other people going through similar experiences.
But her treatment journey has also brought moments of intense anxiety.
In September, Shaw became tearful after missing an important appointment at Royal Berkshire Hospital because she could not find a parking space.
She said she had arrived early but spent around 45 minutes driving around the hospital car park without finding a space. Eventually, she had to call the hospital and explain that she could not get to the appointment.
“The anxiety it’s brought up is horrendous,” Shaw said in an emotional Instagram Story.
She explained that the appointment was one she had been particularly looking forward to, making the experience even more upsetting.
The appointment is expected to be rearranged.
Royal Berkshire Hospital’s Berkshire Cancer Centre provides chemotherapy and radiotherapy services, as well as support for patients undergoing cancer treatment.
Shaw’s diagnosis was first announced in April, and her journey has since attracted messages of support from fans who remember her from her years on Coronation Street.
While her path toward surgery remains uncertain, she continues to undergo treatment and share updates with those following her story.
For now, Shaw is facing the next stage of her cancer journey one treatment at a time — while acknowledging just how emotionally demanding the road ahead can be.
