🥺❤️ THEY GREW UP WITHOUT RUNNING WATER — NOW THESE TWIN DOCTORS RUN THE ER IN THEIR HOMETOWN

Forty years ago, Travan and Travis Jasper were two boys growing up in one of Richmond’s poorest neighborhoods.

Their family had no running water.

They were often hungry.

The twins would walk to a nearby park to collect water.

But even then, they were dreaming about a different future.

When they were just 12 years old, something happened that changed both of their lives.

Their uncle was hospitalized with liver failure.

The boys were frightened and looking for someone to comfort them.

Instead, they say the doctor treating their uncle was dismissive.

That moment stayed with them.

Standing in the hospital hallway, the twins made a promise:

One day, they would become the kind of doctors who cared differently.

And they kept that promise.

The brothers graduated from high school as co-valedictorians.

They went on to Stanford for college.

Then they attended the University of Chicago for medical school.

Decades later, they returned to the same Richmond community where they had grown up.

Not as the poor children who once had to fetch water.

But as doctors.

Today, Travan and Travis Jasper serve as co-directors of the emergency department at Chippenham Hospital.

They even work in different-colored scrubs — green and purple — so patients and coworkers can tell the identical twins apart.

For Travis, the journey still feels almost impossible.

He told CBS News that he could not have imagined this life when they were growing up more than 40 years ago.

The boys who once needed help from the outside world are now the ones standing inside an emergency room, helping others through their hardest moments.

They didn’t forget where they came from.

They came home to serve the people in the community that raised them. ❤️

It’s about coming back — and becoming the help you once needed.
