UNWAVERING DEVOTION: THE ENDURING BOND OF MICHAEL J. FOX AND TRACY POLLAN

For seven years, Michael J. Fox continued working on screen while facing a private battle off camera. Only a small circle knew the reality, chief among them his wife, Tracy Pollan. Married in 1988, the couple welcomed their first son, Sam, a year later. However, in 1991, at just 29 years old, a twitching finger and sore shoulder led Michael to a life-altering diagnosis: Parkinson’s disease.

Devastated, he shared the news with Tracy. Her response was immediate and grounded in four simple words: “In sickness and in health.” Rather than offering empty comfort, she reaffirmed their marriage vows.

Michael initially kept his condition hidden, continuing his acting career while struggling to process his future. During this difficult period, he briefly relied on alcohol before choosing sobriety in 1992 to confront his health head-on. Meanwhile, their family expanded with the birth of twin daughters Aquinnah and Schuyler in 1995, and daughter Esmé in 2001.

In 1998, Michael publicly revealed his diagnosis. Two years later, he founded The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research, which has since raised over $3 billion to advance cures and treatments.

In September 2026, 35 years after his diagnosis, Michael received the Bob Hope Humanitarian Award at the Emmy Awards. Tracy and their four children sat in the audience as he thanked them for their boundless love and patience. Thirty-five years after a devastating diagnosis, Tracy’s initial vow remains as steadfast as ever.
