For Reuben Owen and Jessica Ellwood, romance doesn’t always mean fancy restaurants, city breaks or candlelit dinners.

Sometimes, it looks like sheep, muddy boots, machinery and a long day of work on the farm.

The young couple first met at a Young Farmers’ event, where they quickly discovered they had something important in common: they both understood what it meant to grow up surrounded by farming, animals and hard work. Jessica later said they simply “clicked” because they came from such similar backgrounds.

Reuben has spoken openly about how much Jessica means to him, describing meeting her as one of the luckiest things to happen to him.

Their relationship began in 2024, and it wasn’t long before Jessica became part of Reuben’s everyday world.

Their first date even came with an unforgettable mishap.

Reuben has recalled that he lost his wallet before their dinner, leaving Jessica to pay for the meal.

But the awkward beginning clearly didn’t matter.

The two soon became inseparable, and Reuben has described Jessica as “brilliant” and “an absolute star.”

What makes their relationship stand out is how naturally their personal and working lives fit together.

Jessica grew up at Brough Castle Farm in Cumbria, where she has been surrounded by farming from childhood. She now works full-time alongside her family and has extensive experience with livestock and farm machinery.

Reuben, meanwhile, has built his own career around farming and heavy machinery.

So when they spend time together, there is no need to explain why a day spent fixing equipment or working with sheep can actually be enjoyable.

Reuben has said they work particularly well together, whether they’re driving machinery, working with sheep or helping each other get through a demanding job.
