LITTLE GUS VANISHED WITHOUT A TRACE — ONE YEAR LATER, A $1 MILLION REWARD AND A HAUNTING QUESTION
THE FOUR-YEAR-OLD DISAPPEARED FROM HIS FAMILY’S REMOTE AUSTRALIAN PROPERTY — AND POLICE STILL DON’T KNOW WHERE HE IS
Almost one year ago, four-year-old Gus Lamont disappeared from his family’s remote property in South Australia.
There was no confirmed sighting after that day.
No discovery that could explain where he went.
And despite one of the largest and most intensive missing-person searches in South Australian history, investigators have still found no trace of the little boy.
Now, as the anniversary of his disappearance approaches, authorities have taken another extraordinary step.
A $1 million reward has been announced for information that leads to Gus’s whereabouts or a conviction in the case.
THE DAY LITTLE GUS DISAPPEARED
Gus was reported missing on September 27, 2025, from Oak Park Station near Yunta in South Australia’s remote outback.
According to police, the four-year-old had been playing outside the family home.
His grandmother later went looking for him and could not find him.
Emergency services were eventually called, launching an enormous search across the isolated property.
Police, volunteers, emergency personnel, mounted units, aircraft and specialist teams were involved.
But Gus was nowhere to be found.
HUNDREDS SEARCHED — BUT THERE WAS NO SIGN OF HIM
The search became massive.
Police conducted 11 ground searches over approximately 30 days, alongside aerial operations covering huge areas of the surrounding outback.
Specialist drones were used to examine the property from above.
Investigators searched buildings, mine shafts, dams and other areas around Oak Park Station and nearby land.
Yet despite the scale of the operation, investigators found no trace of Gus and no confirmed sign of where he had gone.
The boy’s distinctive golden curls became one of the images associated with a mystery that quickly captured national attention.
THE INVESTIGATION THEN TOOK A DARK TURN
At first, police explored the possibility that Gus had wandered away from the property.
But months of searching produced no answer.
In February 2026, South Australia Police declared the disappearance a major crime.
Investigators said they had identified a person living at the property as a suspect.
Police also said Gus’s parents were not suspects in the investigation.
Authorities later confirmed that some family members were no longer cooperating directly with investigators and were communicating through lawyers.
Police have not publicly identified a person as having been charged over Gus’s disappearance.
POLICE NOW BELIEVE SOMEONE MAY KNOW WHAT HAPPENED
As the investigation developed, detectives said they had identified inconsistencies and discrepancies in information provided during the inquiry.
Investigators have continued to examine the movements and accounts of people connected to the property.
But despite the major-crime investigation, Gus has still not been located.
That has left investigators facing one of the most difficult questions in the case:
If Gus did not simply wander away, what happened to him?
Police have urged anyone with information to come forward, even if they believe the detail is insignificant.
HIS PARENTS HAVE NOW SPOKEN PUBLICLY
For months, Gus’s parents remained largely out of the public spotlight.
Then, almost one year after their son disappeared, Josh and Jess made an emotional public appeal.
They described the past year as devastating and spoke about everything Gus has missed while he has been gone.
His fifth birthday passed without him.
His baby brother has reached milestones Gus should have been there to witness.
And his parents are still waiting for answers.
Their message was simple:
Please come forward if you know anything.
A $1 MILLION QUESTION
With the first anniversary approaching, South Australia’s government announced a $1 million reward for information that leads to Gus’s whereabouts or a conviction.
It is an extraordinary amount of money — reflecting both the seriousness of the investigation and the continuing determination to find answers.
Police have stressed that they believe someone may possess information that could finally help investigators understand what happened.
And after almost a year, they are still asking that person to speak.
ONE YEAR LATER, THE MYSTERY REMAINS
Gus was only four years old when he disappeared.
His family home was searched.
The surrounding outback was searched.
Thousands of hours of police work went into the investigation.
Yet there is still no confirmed location for the little boy.
His parents are still waiting.
Investigators are still working.
And a $1 million reward is now on the table.
The case has become more than a missing-person investigation.
It is a question that has remained unanswered for an entire year:
Where is little Gus Lamont — and what happened to him?
Until that question is answered, his family will continue to wait for the one thing they want most.
