GP MUM FOUND DEAD DURING CHILDREN’S SLEEPOVER — HUSBAND CHARGED WITH MURDER

Dr Hannah Cain, also known professionally as Hannah Terry, was found dead at her Norfolk home in the early hours of Sunday. Her husband has now been charged in connection with her death.

A quiet Norfolk village has been left devastated after a 45-year-old GP and mother of three was found dead at her family home while children were reportedly staying overnight for a sleepover.

Dr Hannah Cain, who was known professionally as Dr Hannah Terry, was found at a property in Fern Hill, Dersingham, near the Sandringham Estate, shortly after 2:20 a.m. on October 4.

Emergency services had been called to the address, and Hannah was pronounced dead at the scene.

Two days later, her husband Mark Cain, 45, was charged with her murder.

He remains in custody and is due to appear at Norwich Magistrates’ Court on October 7.

According to reports, Hannah had been hosting a sleepover for friends of the couple’s children that night.

After the emergency response, the children who had been staying at the property were safely taken back to their families.

The circumstances surrounding what happened inside the home remain under investigation.

Norfolk Police have said they are still working to establish the exact circumstances of Hannah’s death.

A Home Office post-mortem examination was carried out on October 5, but her cause of death remains pending further investigation.

HER HUSBAND HAS NOW BEEN CHARGED

Mark Cain was initially arrested after Hannah was found dead.

Following the police investigation, the Crown Prosecution Service confirmed on October 6 that he had been charged with murder.

Michael Devaney of the CPS said prosecutors had worked with Norfolk Police before deciding to prosecute.

The CPS has also stressed that the charge itself is not a finding of guilt and that Mark Cain has the right to a fair trial.

His first court appearance is scheduled for Wednesday morning.

Hannah was a respected doctor who worked at Grimston Medical Centre in Norfolk.

The medical centre was temporarily closed following the tragedy, describing the circumstances as extremely difficult for its staff.

Tributes have since appeared outside the practice.

Colleagues and former patients described Hannah as compassionate, trustworthy and deeply committed to her patients.

One former colleague told the BBC that Hannah was “universally liked” and was someone patients could trust.

Another patient described her as a doctor who took time to listen and showed empathy.

For those who knew her professionally, the news has been almost impossible to comprehend.

A MOTHER OF THREE

Away from medicine, Hannah was known as a mother devoted to her young family.

Neighbours in Dersingham have spoken about the children and the ordinary family life that had existed at the property before the tragedy.

One neighbour described Hannah as a “lovely human being” and spoke of her “gorgeous young children.”

Another recalled the family’s children occasionally coming into the garden to retrieve footballs.

Now, flowers and messages of remembrance have appeared as the community struggles to process what happened.

THE INVESTIGATION CONTINUES

A police cordon remains connected to the investigation as detectives work to establish exactly what happened in the early hours of October 4.

Specialist officers are supporting Hannah’s family, who have asked for privacy.

Police have not publicly confirmed a cause of death, and the post-mortem examination has not yet produced a final cause.

That means many questions remain unanswered.

For now, the criminal proceedings against Mark Cain are only beginning.

He has been charged with murder, but the allegations have yet to be tested in court.

As a family mourns the loss of a mother and doctor, the community is left asking how a quiet night intended for children could end in such devastating circumstances.

Hannah’s family now face the painful wait for answers — while the investigation continues.
