ROYAL FAMILY GP HANNAH CAIN FOUND DEAD DURING CHILDREN’S SLEEPOVER — HUSBAND CHARGED WITH MURDER

Dr Hannah Cain, known professionally as Dr Hannah Terry, was found unconscious in an upstairs bedroom at her family home near Sandringham. Her husband, Mark Cain, has now appeared in court charged with her murder.

A quiet village near the Sandringham Estate has been left in shock after a 45-year-old GP who was reportedly part of a medical team serving members of the British royal family was found dead at her home.

Dr Hannah Cain, known professionally to patients as Dr Hannah Terry, was discovered at a property on Fern Hill in Dersingham, Norfolk, in the early hours of Sunday, October 4, 2026.

Three days later, her husband, Mark Cain, 45, appeared before Norwich Magistrates’ Court after being charged with her murder.

The case has attracted widespread attention because of Hannah’s work as a doctor near the royal family’s Sandringham residence — but behind the headlines, her family is mourning a mother, wife, daughter, sister and friend.

Emergency services were called to the property shortly after 2:20 a.m. on October 4.

Prosecutor Jackie Hanlon told Norwich Magistrates’ Court that the ambulance service contacted police at approximately 2:25 a.m. after Hannah was found upstairs.

She was described in court as being “not breathing, not conscious” when paramedics attended.

Despite efforts to help her, Hannah died at the property.

Mark Cain was arrested following the incident and was subsequently charged with her murder by the Crown Prosecution Service.

The CPS confirmed on October 6 that it had authorized the prosecution following a police investigation.

The service stressed that the decision to prosecute is not a finding of guilt and that Cain remains entitled to a fair trial.

WHAT THE COURT HEARD ABOUT HANNAH’S INJURIES

The first details about Hannah’s injuries emerged during her husband’s court appearance.

Prosecutor Jackie Hanlon told magistrates that a post-mortem examination had identified a blunt-force injury to the right side of Hannah’s head.

The examination also found an injury that could be suggestive of compression of the neck.

The prosecutor did not provide further details about how those injuries were allegedly caused.

There were also children present at the property at the time, the court heard.

Reports have said Hannah had been hosting a sleepover for children at the family home that night.

However, authorities have not publicly released detailed information about what the children may have seen or heard.

Police have asked the public not to speculate while investigators continue establishing exactly what happened.

Hannah was a GP at Grimston Medical Centre near King’s Lynn.

According to information about her professional career, she had been a qualified doctor for more than 15 years and had worked as a GP for around eight years.

She also ran Norfolk Sky Aesthetics, a private cosmetics business.

On her professional website, Hannah described herself as a caring and professional doctor who continued her GP work alongside her aesthetics practice.

Her medical career also brought her into contact with Britain’s royal household.

Reports have said Hannah was among a pool of doctors who could be called upon to provide medical care to members of the royal family when they were staying at the nearby Sandringham Estate.

She was reportedly among the doctors who had treated senior members of the Royal Family, including Queen Camilla.

The medical centre where she worked has previously served the local community for years and is located close to the royal estate.

Sandringham House is just over a mile from the property where Hannah was found.

A FAMILY HOME TURNED INTO A CRIME SCENE

The events have shocked residents in Dersingham, a village close to the royal estate.

Police established a cordon around the property as detectives began investigating the circumstances surrounding Hannah’s death.

Her children’s friends, who had reportedly been staying at the home for the sleepover, were taken back to their families while the investigation unfolded.

The presence of children has made the case particularly distressing for the local community, although police have not released detailed information about their experiences.

Detective Inspector Alix Wright of the Norfolk and Suffolk Major Investigation Team said investigators were still in the early stages of establishing what happened.

She appealed to anyone with information that could assist the investigation to come forward.

MARK CAIN APPEARS IN COURT

Mark Cain appeared at Norwich Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, October 7.

He wore a black sweater and spoke only to confirm his name, address and date of birth.

He was not required to enter a plea at the hearing.

District Judge Matthew Bone remanded him in custody and sent the case to King’s Lynn Crown Court, where he was due to appear the following day.

The CPS has emphasized that the proceedings are active.

That means details surrounding the allegation must be reported carefully to avoid prejudicing the future trial.

Mark Cain has not been convicted of any offence.

TRIBUTES FOR A “KIND, GENEROUS AND LOVING” WOMAN

As news of Hannah’s death spread, tributes were left at her workplace and around the village.

Her colleagues described the loss as devastating.

One colleague said Hannah was an “amazing doctor” and an “amazing person,” remembering her as warm-hearted and deeply devoted to her family.

Flowers and cards were placed outside Grimston Medical Centre.

The practice temporarily closed following the tragedy, saying it was dealing with “extremely difficult circumstances affecting our practice team.”

Hannah’s family has asked for privacy while they grieve.

In a statement, they described her as:

“Kind, generous and loving.”

They said she was a beloved mother, daughter, sister, aunt, daughter-in-law and friend.

They also expressed pride in the woman she was and the care she gave to her patients, who knew her professionally as Dr Terry.

Specialist officers are supporting the family.

QUESTIONS REMAIN UNANSWERED

The investigation is still in its early stages.

Police have not publicly established a motive, and many questions surrounding the circumstances of Hannah’s death remain unanswered.

Investigators are working to establish what happened inside the family home during the early hours of October 4 and what events led to Hannah being found unconscious upstairs.

The court has so far heard only limited details.

What is known is that emergency services were called shortly after 2:20 a.m., children were present at the property, Hannah suffered a serious head injury and an injury suggestive of neck compression, and her husband has been charged with her murder.

The rest will ultimately have to be tested through the criminal justice process.

A DOCTOR WHO LEFT A MARK ON HER COMMUNITY

For those who knew Hannah professionally, the tragedy has left more than a crime scene behind.

It has left a medical practice without one of its doctors, patients without someone they trusted and a family without a mother.

Her connection to the royal family has inevitably placed the case in the national spotlight.

But for people in Dersingham and the surrounding area, Hannah was more than a doctor who worked near Sandringham.

She was a familiar face.

A colleague.

A mother.

And someone whose patients trusted her with their health.

Now, as Mark Cain faces the next stage of the legal process, investigators continue working to establish the full circumstances of Hannah’s death.

For her family, however, the most important story is not about the royal connection or the court case.

It is about Hannah herself.

A woman remembered by those who knew her as kind, generous, loving and devoted to her patients and family.

And a mother whose life ended far too soon.

The investigation continues. The allegations against Mark Cain remain unproven unless and until established in court.
