“A MUM SHOULD NEVER HAVE TO BURY HER CHILD” — THE HEARTBREAKING STORY OF 11-YEAR-OLD MIYA DEAMER-JONES
After losing her father just three years ago, young Miya’s family is now facing another unimaginable loss — and friends are asking the public to help give her the farewell she deserves.
In the quiet village of Elmley Castle, Worcestershire, a family is facing a heartbreak no parent should ever have to endure.
Miya Deamer-Jones, just 11 years old, was reported missing on the evening of Sunday, October 4, after she failed to return home. Her mother, Katie Jones, and others searched for her before police were contacted.
Tragically, Miya was later found in a park near the village cricket ground, less than an hour after she was reported missing.
The news left her family, friends and the close-knit community devastated.
A FAMILY FACING AN UNIMAGINABLE LOSS
Miya was the youngest of four sisters. Reports say the family had already endured the loss of Miya’s father around three years earlier.
Now, her mother and sisters are left to navigate a future without the little girl who held such a special place in their lives.
Rebecca Lippitt, a childhood friend of Katie’s, launched an online fundraiser to help cover funeral expenses and provide Miya with a lasting memorial.
In her appeal, Rebecca described Miya as Katie’s “precious youngest daughter” and spoke of the family’s overwhelming grief.
“A mum should never have to make funeral arrangements for her child,” the fundraiser said, highlighting the emotional and financial burden facing the family during an already devastating time.
The appeal asks people who are able to contribute to help give Miya a beautiful farewell. Those unable to donate are encouraged to share the fundraiser so the family can receive support from the wider community.
POLICE ISSUE AN IMPORTANT UPDATE
In the days following Miya’s discovery, West Mercia Police carried out extensive enquiries to establish the circumstances surrounding her death.
On October 7, police confirmed they had found no evidence of suspicious circumstances or third-party involvement. The case is not being treated as a criminal investigation.
A full file is now being prepared for the coroner, who will consider the circumstances in due course. The cause and circumstances of Miya’s death should not be speculated upon while the formal process continues.
Police have also urged the public to think carefully before sharing unverified claims online, warning that speculation can cause further distress to a family already enduring profound grief.
A LITTLE GIRL WHO WILL NOT BE FORGOTTEN
Behind the headlines is an 11-year-old girl whose loss has touched people far beyond her village.
For Miya’s family, the coming days will be filled with difficult arrangements and memories of the daughter and sister they loved. The fundraiser is one way friends and neighbours hope to ease some of the practical burdens while surrounding them with kindness.
No amount of money can undo their loss. But every message of support, every thoughtful share and every act of generosity can remind the family that they do not have to face this heartbreak alone.
