“AN ANGEL ON EARTH”: HUSBAND’S HEARTBREAKING TRIBUTE TO DANIELLE O’KEANE AFTER WESTLIFE CONCERT TRAGEDY

The 37-year-old mother of two died after a rickshaw crash in Dublin. At her funeral, her husband remembered the woman he loved as his best friend and the heart of their family.

NEWRY, NORTHERN IRELAND — Danielle O’Keane was supposed to be enjoying a memorable night out with friends at a Westlife concert. Instead, the evening ended in tragedy, leaving her husband, two young sons and a wider family struggling to come to terms with her sudden loss.

O’Keane, 37, from Saval near Newry, died in hospital on October 1, 2026, after being seriously injured in a rickshaw crash in Dublin several days earlier. She had attended Westlife’s concert at the 3Arena on Saturday, September 26, before travelling toward the city center with friends.

According to reports, the rickshaw struck a curb and overturned, causing passengers to fall out. O’Keane sustained critical injuries and was taken to the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital, where she received treatment. She later died from her injuries. Gardaí appealed for witnesses and dashcam footage as their investigation continued.

At Danielle’s funeral on October 9, family and friends gathered at St Joseph’s Church in Sheeptown, County Down, to remember a woman whose life had been closely woven into the lives of those around her.

Her husband, Dave O’Keane, spoke about the life they had built together and the future they had imagined. He described Danielle as an extraordinary woman and reflected on how much they had achieved during their years together, including buying a home, getting married and raising their two sons, Caolán and Cillian.

He said losing her so suddenly felt profoundly unfair, particularly when they had only just built the life they had always wanted.

The tribute captured the pain of losing not only a partner, but also a best friend and the person with whom he expected to share the years ahead.

Danielle’s funeral notice described her as the much-loved wife of Dave and devoted mother of Caolán and Cillian. She was also remembered as a beloved daughter of Michael and Pauline, and the sister of Barry and her twin brother, Seán.

Tributes from friends and colleagues described her as warm, kind and friendly. Many shared messages of sympathy for her husband and children, reflecting the deep effect her loss had on the people who knew her.

For her family, the hardest part is knowing that the everyday moments they once expected to share with Danielle have now become memories to hold close.

WESTLIFE DEDICATES SONGS IN HER MEMORY

News of Danielle’s death also reached the band whose concert she had attended that night.

During a performance in Newcastle, Westlife dedicated “Flying Without Wings” and “You Raise Me Up” to Danielle and others grieving the loss of someone they loved. Singer Shane Filan acknowledged her by name, while the band shared a message of support for her family.

The tribute brought an emotional connection between the night Danielle had looked forward to and the farewell her loved ones were now facing. Her husband later shared the moment on social media.

AN INVESTIGATION CONTINUES

Gardaí appealed for anyone who witnessed the incident or had relevant camera footage from North Wall Quay between approximately 10:30 p.m. and 11:15 p.m. on September 26 to come forward.

The circumstances of the crash remain subject to investigation. Anyone with information was asked to contact Store Street Garda Station or the Garda Confidential Line.

A LIFE THAT WILL NOT BE FORGOTTEN

Danielle was 37 when she died, leaving behind a husband and two young sons who must now face life without her.

Her story has prompted an outpouring of sympathy across Ireland, from relatives and friends to Westlife fans moved by the band’s tribute.

For those closest to her, however, the loss is far more personal than a headline or a public tribute can convey. Danielle was a wife, a mother, a daughter, a sister and a friend whose place in their lives cannot be filled.

As her family holds on to memories of the woman they loved, one thing remains clear: the music played in her honor may fade, but the love she leaves behind will continue to shape the lives of those who knew her.
