“NO ONE WILL EVER TAKE HIS PLACE” — LINDSEY BURROW’S HEARTBREAKING WORDS ABOUT THE LOVE OF HER LIFE

“NO ONE WILL EVER TAKE HIS PLACE” — LINDSEY BURROW’S HEARTBREAKING WORDS ABOUT THE LOVE OF HER LIFE

Two years after losing her beloved husband, rugby legend Rob Burrow, Lindsey Burrow has opened up about grief, raising their three children and the promise she made to keep living life to the fullest.

Some love stories do not end when a loved one is gone. They continue through memories, family traditions and the quiet moments when the absence of someone special feels impossible to ignore.

For Lindsey Burrow, that love remains at the heart of her life following the death of her husband, Rob Burrow, the beloved former Leeds Rhinos rugby league star who died in June 2024 at the age of just 41 after battling motor neurone disease (MND).

In a deeply personal interview published in October 2026, Lindsey reflected on life without the man she had loved since they were teenagers.

When asked whether she could imagine finding love again, her response was clear.

“Rob was the love of my life. No one will ever take his place.”

Her words have touched readers, capturing the enduring bond between a couple whose life together was cut tragically short.

Lindsey and Rob’s relationship began when they were young. They eventually married and spent 17 years together as husband and wife, building a family and raising three children: Macy, Maya and Jackson.

To rugby fans, Rob was a remarkable athlete who helped make Leeds Rhinos one of the most celebrated teams in rugby league. But to Lindsey and their children, he was much more than a sporting hero.

He was a husband, a father and the person who wanted to get home as quickly as possible to spend time with his family.

Lindsey recalled how Rob would often be the first to leave social events because he wanted to return to his children. She described him as the best father she could have wished for.

That devotion became even more meaningful after his diagnosis changed the family’s life forever.

THE DIAGNOSIS THAT CHANGED EVERYTHING

In December 2019, Rob was diagnosed with motor neurone disease, a progressive neurological condition that affects the nerves responsible for controlling movement.

The diagnosis was devastating. Over time, the disease affected his ability to move, speak and carry out everyday activities that many people take for granted.

Yet Rob refused to allow his illness to define the remainder of his life.

Together with his family and former teammate Kevin Sinfield, he helped raise awareness of MND and inspired extraordinary fundraising efforts to support research, treatment and care.

The family also allowed cameras into their home, giving the public an intimate view of the challenges of living with the disease.

Through those difficult years, Lindsey stood beside her husband, helping care for him while protecting precious moments with their children.

Their journey touched people across the United Kingdom and beyond, transforming Rob into a symbol of courage, determination and the power of family.

Rob died on June 2, 2024, leaving Lindsey and their three children to face a future they had never wanted to imagine.

Although the grief remains, Lindsey has made a conscious effort to honour a promise she made to her husband before his death.

“I made Rob a promise that we’d keep living life to the full,” she explained.

She says the family is doing its best to keep that promise, although the journey is far from easy.

There are good days and difficult days. Sometimes, an ordinary moment can suddenly bring the pain rushing back.

A familiar song playing in the car can remind Lindsey of Rob. Watching other fathers enjoying football with their children can make her think about the experiences he should still be sharing with their son.

These are the moments that reveal how grief does not simply disappear with time.

Life continues, children grow and new memories are made, but the person who should have been there to share those moments is still deeply missed.

For Lindsey, learning to live without Rob does not mean leaving him behind.

THEIR THREE CHILDREN KEEP HIS MEMORY ALIVE

Macy, Maya and Jackson remain at the centre of Lindsey’s world.

She has spoken about how much strength the children have given her, describing them as a reason to wake up each morning with a smile.

The family continues to talk about Rob every day. They also keep memory jars at home, allowing the children to revisit treasured memories and remember their father in their own way.

Lindsey believes Rob’s example has helped the children navigate their loss.

Despite their sadness, they continue to move forward with the strength and resilience their father demonstrated throughout his illness.

For Lindsey, helping them grow up happy while keeping their father’s memory alive is one of the most important promises she can fulfil.

Rob may no longer be physically present, but the values he taught them and the love he gave them remain part of their everyday lives.

TURNING HEARTBREAK INTO A LEGACY OF HOPE

Beyond caring for her family, Lindsey has continued Rob’s mission to improve the lives of people affected by motor neurone disease.

She has played a major role in the work surrounding the Rob Burrow Centre for Motor Neurone Disease in Leeds, helping turn her husband’s vision of better, more joined-up care into reality.

The centre represents a lasting part of Rob’s legacy, providing a dedicated place for patients and families facing the devastating effects of MND.

Lindsey has also continued supporting fundraising events and awareness campaigns, determined that her husband’s story should help others.

Her work was recognised in October 2026 when she received a Campaigning Champions Award at the Women of the Year Awards.

For a woman who has endured profound personal loss, continuing that work is another way of keeping Rob’s spirit alive.

A LOVE THAT WILL ALWAYS BE PART OF HER LIFE

Losing a partner after decades of shared memories leaves an absence that cannot easily be explained.

For Lindsey, Rob was the person who knew her best, the man she grew up with and the father of her children. Their relationship was built over years of ordinary moments, shared challenges and a lifetime of love.

Her words are not simply about refusing to forget the past. They are a reflection of the place Rob continues to hold in her heart.

She remains grateful for the years they shared, even as she acknowledges how heartbreaking it is that he is no longer here.

And through the difficult days, she continues to honour the promise they made to one another: to keep living, to care for their children and to find happiness wherever possible.

Rob Burrow may be gone, but his influence remains in the lives he changed, the people he inspired and the family who continue to carry his memory forward.

“No one will ever take his place.”

For Lindsey, those words say everything about a love that time cannot erase — and a family bond that continues, even through the deepest heartbreak. 💔🕊️
