My Husband Brought His Mistress to Our Anniversary—Then I Introduced Her Real Husband

The Marriage Nobody Knew About
Vanessa stumbled backward.

“Daniel? What are you doing here?”

Daniel ignored her and approached Richard.

“You told me the business trip was in Chicago,” he said quietly.

Richard swallowed.

“Daniel, I can explain.”

Daniel opened his briefcase.

“Then explain why my wife has been spending our company’s money with you.”

The ballroom erupted in whispers.

Vanessa grabbed Richard’s arm.

“Catherine is lying! This is some kind of setup!”

I placed a folder beside the anniversary cake.

“No, Vanessa. These are bank transfers, hotel receipts, and company expense reports.”

Richard stared at the papers.

For fifteen years, Daniel had been his silent business partner, financing the company Richard publicly claimed he’d built alone.

And Vanessa wasn’t simply Daniel’s wife.

She was the financial director responsible for approving millions in company transactions.

Daniel turned toward Richard.

“You used company funds to buy my wife a house?”

Richard said nothing.

“While telling me our profits were declining?”

Vanessa began crying.

But I wasn’t finished.

“Richard, there’s one more thing.”

I removed my wedding ring and placed it on the table.

“Three weeks ago, I discovered the affair. Two weeks ago, Daniel and I hired forensic accountants. Yesterday, we delivered the evidence to our attorneys.”

Richard reached for my hand.

“Catherine, please. We can fix this.”

I stepped away.

“You had twenty years to protect this marriage. You chose tonight to destroy it.”

Daniel closed his briefcase.

“And tomorrow morning, Richard, the board will review the evidence and vote on your removal.”

Vanessa sank into a chair.

Richard looked around the ballroom, searching for someone willing to defend him.

Nobody moved.

I picked up my coat and walked toward the doors.

Behind me, Richard called my name.

For twenty years, I’d always turned around.

That night, I kept walking.

Because the greatest anniversary gift I ever received wasn’t diamonds, flowers, or promises.

It was finally getting my life back.
