The Cowboy’s Sons Sold His Ranch While He Was at His Wife’s Funeral—Then the Buyer Removed His Hat

THE SON WHO CAME BACK FROM THE DEAD
“Daniel?” Samuel gasped. “They told me you died in that river!”

Twenty years earlier, Samuel’s youngest son had disappeared during a violent flood. His brothers claimed they’d watched the current sweep him away.

But Daniel was alive.

And the truth was far darker.

“I survived, Dad. A family found me miles downstream. When I finally recovered, I learned Richard and Thomas had told everyone I was dead.”

Richard went pale.

Daniel reached into his coat.

“Three weeks ago, I discovered they were planning to steal everything you and Mom built.”

He unfolded a document.

“They forged your signature to transfer the ranch. But they didn’t know their mysterious buyer was me.”

Thomas stepped backward.

Daniel turned to his father.

“I bought the fraudulent contract through my attorney. The money is frozen, and the sheriff already has the evidence.”

Richard shouted, “You can’t prove anything!”

Daniel looked toward the gate.

Two sheriff’s vehicles were approaching.

Then he took Samuel’s trembling hand.

“Mom knew I was alive, Dad. She found me last Christmas. We were planning to surprise you.”

Samuel began to cry.

“Why didn’t she tell me?”

Daniel handed him a sealed letter bearing Margaret’s handwriting.

“Because she discovered what my brothers had done twenty years ago.”

And when Samuel opened the letter, the very first sentence made him realize his youngest son’s disappearance had never been an accident.

THE END.
