MICROSOFT WORKER’S MURDER: MAN PLEADS GUILTY AFTER JENNIFER SYMONDS WAS FOUND IN THE RIVER THAMES
Nelio Gouveia, 45, admitted murdering Jennifer Symonds, 44, at Oxford Crown Court. The Microsoft employee was found in the River Thames near a private members’ club in Henley-on-Thames in March.
A man has admitted murdering a 44-year-old Microsoft employee whose body was discovered in the River Thames earlier this year.
Nelio Gouveia, 45, appeared at Oxford Crown Court on October 29, 2026, where he pleaded guilty to the murder of Jennifer Symonds.
Gouveia, who required a Portuguese interpreter during the hearing, was remanded in custody. He is due to be sentenced on November 20.
Three of Jennifer’s friends attended court and appeared emotional as the guilty plea was entered, marking a significant development in the case.
JENNIFER WAS FOUND IN THE RIVER THAMES
Jennifer, 44, was discovered in the River Thames near the Phyllis Court private members’ club in Henley-on-Thames on March 6, 2026.
Police received reports of a woman in the water and launched a response involving specialist officers and police divers.
Her body was subsequently recovered from the river.
A post-mortem examination recorded drowning as her cause of death. Police later identified her as Jennifer Symonds, who was from Henley.
A CAREER AT MICROSOFT
Jennifer had worked for Microsoft since 2018, according to information on her LinkedIn profile.
She was a senior customer success account manager at the company’s UK headquarters in Reading.
Before beginning her career at Microsoft, she studied physical geography at the University of Gloucestershire between 2000 and 2003, where she also captained the university hockey team.
Her professional life and university achievements paint a picture of a woman who had built a career and connections over many years.
POLICE ASK FAMILY’S PRIVACY TO BE RESPECTED
Following Jennifer’s death, Thames Valley Police confirmed her identity and said specially trained family liaison officers were supporting her next of kin.
A police spokesperson said the family had requested privacy during an extremely difficult time.
The guilty plea now brings a major development in the criminal proceedings, although Gouveia’s sentencing is still to come.
For Jennifer’s loved ones, the court appearance may mark an important step in the pursuit of justice, but it cannot undo the loss they have endured.
Jennifer Symonds was 44. She was a colleague, a friend and a member of her community. May she rest in peace.
