20-YEAR-OLD PILOT NATHALIA GADELHA FILGUEIRAS AMONG 9 KILLED IN FLORIDA JET CRASH AFTER EARNING HER LICENSE AT JUST 17

A 20-year-old pilot who once proudly said she could fly before she could even drive has been identified as one of nine people killed when a private jet crashed into a Florida neighborhood.

Nathalia Gadelha Filgueiras was serving as the co-pilot aboard a Learjet 60 that went down in Greenacres, Palm Beach County, on Sunday, November 1, 2026. Her family confirmed her identity and role aboard the aircraft.

The jet had departed Austin, Texas, and was heading toward North Eleuthera in the Bahamas when it crashed at approximately 12:50 p.m. local time. All nine people aboard were killed.

For Nathalia, aviation was more than a career ambition. It was a passion she had been pursuing since she was a teenager.

She first became interested in flying after her father began flying recreationally in 2018. By 2020, she had already started ground-school training, determined to turn that early interest into a future in aviation.

In October 2023, at just 17 years old, Nathalia earned her private pilot’s license — even before obtaining her driver’s license.

Her achievement attracted attention from local media, including CBS12, which interviewed her while she was still in high school.

At the time, she joked about the unusual order in which she had learned to travel independently.

“People say, ‘Oh, you can’t drive,’ and I say, ‘Yeah, but I can fly,'” she said in the interview.

Her family later said she had accumulated approximately 1,300 flight hours and had been working as a commercial pilot for around nine months.

The Learjet was flying at approximately 35,000 feet when the crew began reporting difficult weather conditions to air traffic controllers.

Recordings of the radio communications captured reports of ice accumulating on the aircraft, moderate turbulence and precipitation.

The crew requested permission to climb to a higher altitude. But moments later, the situation deteriorated rapidly.

A pilot declared an emergency and issued a mayday call as the aircraft began descending at an alarming rate.

The recordings captured increasingly urgent warnings, including reports that the jet was descending thousands of feet per minute.

At one point, a pilot warned air traffic control: “We’re going to crash into the ground.”

The final reported words included: “We’re out of time.”

The identity of the person speaking in the recording has not been independently established, and the words should not be attributed specifically to Nathalia.

Nine Lives Lost in a Tragic Crash

The aircraft crashed into a residential area in Greenacres, leaving a devastating scene and killing everyone aboard.

The National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration are investigating the circumstances surrounding the disaster.

Investigators are examining the aircraft, the weather conditions and the evidence recovered from the crash site. The exact cause has not yet been determined.

Nathalia’s death has left her family and loved ones mourning a young woman whose life had been shaped by an extraordinary ambition.

She had worked toward her dream from an early age, earned her pilot’s license while still a teenager and built a career in the skies before reaching 21.

As the investigation continues and more details about the other victims emerge, each of the nine people lost in the crash deserves to be remembered for the life they lived and the people who loved them.

May Nathalia and all those who lost their lives rest in peace. Our thoughts are with their families during this heartbreaking time.
