A Baby Born With Part of Her Brain Outside Her Skull Faced a Terrifying Start to Life, but Her Fight Became a Story of Courage, Love, and Hope
Before Joanna was even born, her parents received news that changed everything. During an anatomy scan, doctors discovered she had occipital encephalocele, a rare condition where part of the brain develops outside the skull.
In one moment, joy turned into fear. Her family was told to prepare for a difficult road, but nothing could prepare them for the fight their baby girl was about to face.

Joanna arrived at 37 weeks and was rushed straight to the NICU. Within hours of birth, she underwent her first life-saving surgery. Her parents could only watch, pray, and hope as doctors worked to protect their fragile newborn.
For more than 20 days in intensive care, Joanna battled through pain, uncertainty, and multiple medical challenges. Later, her family also learned she had cerebral palsy, bringing new fears and new questions about her future.
But Joanna kept fighting.
Against the odds, she began to grow stronger. With therapy, love, and constant support, she learned, moved forward, and reached milestones her family once feared might never come.
Today, Joanna is walking, learning, smiling, and proving that even the smallest fighters can carry the greatest strength.

Her journey is more than a medical story. It is a reminder that hope can survive inside the hardest moments, and that love becomes even stronger when tested by fear.
How can anyone watch a child fight so bravely and not feel their heart break?
