Carson Pickett’s Historic Soccer Journey Proved That Being Born Different Could Never Stop Her From Reaching the United States National Team
When Carson Pickett was born without her left forearm and hand, many people saw a challenge that might limit her future.
Carson chose to see something different.

Growing up with a limb difference was not always easy. She faced questions, stares, moments of insecurity, and the quiet pressure of feeling different from other children. But whenever she stepped onto a soccer field, the noise faded. The game gave her freedom, purpose, and a place where her talent could speak louder than anyone’s doubts.
She began playing at just five years old and quickly fell in love with the sport. While others noticed what she did not have, Carson focused on what she could build: skill, discipline, confidence, and strength. Year after year, she trained harder, improved faster, and became one of the best players on every team she joined.
Her journey carried her through high school success and into Florida State University, where she became one of the top college soccer players in the country. In 2016, she was selected fourth overall in the National Women’s Soccer League draft, launching her professional career.

Then, on June 29, 2022, Carson made history. She played for the United States Women’s National Team against Colombia, becoming the first player with a limb difference to represent the team. She did not just appear briefly. She played the full match in a 2–0 victory.
Beyond the field, one of her most powerful moments came when she met a young fan named Joseph, who had a similar limb difference. Their simple arm bump became a worldwide symbol of representation and hope.
Carson Pickett’s story is not about what she was born without. It is about everything she chose to become.
