Florida woman fatally shoots Army veteran during dispute over Walmart parking spot

A 62-year-old Army veteran was fatally shot in a Florida Walmart parking lot following a heated argument over a parking space.
Bart DiGuglielmo, a retired U.S. Army Staff Sergeant and New Jersey native, was killed outside the Walmart Supercenter in North Lauderdale on Tuesday afternoon, according to the Broward Sheriff’s Office.
The incident began as a verbal altercation between DiGuglielmo and an unidentified woman over a parking spot just before 12:30 p.m. The dispute quickly escalated when the woman, who had a gun in her hand, shot DiGuglielmo once. He was transported to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Video footage captured by bystanders shows the woman stepping out of her vehicle with a firearm, pointing at DiGuglielmo, and the two arguing intensely in an empty parking space. DiGuglielmo is seen raising both arms at one point before following the woman around another car, at which time she fired the fatal shot.
The woman told investigators she acted in self-defense. She was not immediately identified by authorities. The Broward County State Attorney’s Office will determine whether charges will be filed following the ongoing investigation.
Witnesses described the woman becoming hysterical after the shooting. One shopper told CBS News Miami he heard her screaming loudly at the scene.

A decorated veteran
DiGuglielmo, who lived in Lauderhill, Florida, served as a combat nurse, combat medic, and tactical communications expert. His sister described him as a decorated veteran of Operation Desert Storm, a Christian man, and “a very good person who would not hurt anyone.”
He was also a retired nurse after his military service.
This tragic incident highlights how quickly a minor parking dispute can turn deadly. The investigation remains active.
