Dine-and-Dash Couple Flees Fancy Restaurant After Lavish £115 Seafood Meal

A couple has been accused of a brazen dine-and-dash at a popular waterfront restaurant in Penarth, South Wales, leaving behind an unpaid bill of around £115 after enjoying a high-end meal.

According to the restaurant The Old Custom House, the pair arrived on Tuesday evening, ordered an expensive feast that included calamari, a £52 Dover sole, and eight Cokes, then left without paying. CCTV footage captured the couple entering the restaurant, enjoying their meal, and later driving away in a sporty Volvo S90 before staff could stop them.

Restaurant Owner’s Reaction

Owner Tanny Martinez expressed deep disappointment, describing the incident as “disrespectful” and highlighting the challenges faced by the hospitality industry.

“The hospitality industry is already facing an incredibly challenging economic climate, with rising costs and pressures across the sector, without having to deal with situations like this. It’s incredibly frustrating when the hard work and dedication that goes into creating great experiences for our customers is not respected.”

He noted that such incidents negatively affect the team’s morale and wellbeing.

Restaurant’s Appeal

The restaurant shared CCTV images and footage on social media, politely urging the couple to return and settle the bill. They confirmed they have the vehicle registration number and would prefer to resolve the matter directly without involving the police.

The post received supportive comments from customers, with many hoping it was an honest mistake and encouraging the pair to pay what they owe.

This story has drawn attention to the growing issue of dine-and-dash incidents, which put extra strain on restaurants already battling economic difficulties.
