8 People Injured, Including 4 Children, in Mass Shooting During Fourth of July Celebrations at Coney Island

At least eight people, including four children, were shot and injured during Fourth of July fireworks celebrations in Brooklyn’s Coney Island on Saturday, July 4.

The shooting occurred around 10:30 p.m. near the intersection of West 30th Street and Surf Avenue, close to the Coney Island boardwalk, as crowds gathered to watch the fireworks display. New York City Police Department (NYPD) officers responded quickly to reports of gunfire in the area.

Victims

The victims include:

  • Four boys aged 6 to 14 years old
  • Two men, aged 33 and 37
  • Two women, aged 21 and 25

All victims were transported to local hospitals by emergency services. Seven of the injured are in stable condition, while the 21-year-old woman remains in critical condition. The victims have not been publicly identified.

Scene and Investigation

Gunshots rang out during the fireworks show. A firearm was recovered from the scene. Police were seen assisting the wounded, including carrying children to ambulances. One local deli worker described the chaotic scene:

“When I see in the camera I see the cops running with the kids in their hands… When I went out I saw one kid was going into the ambulance and I was told there were four inside.”

As of now, authorities have not identified the number of shooters or a clear motive. No arrests have been made, and the investigation is ongoing.

This tragic incident occurred amid holiday celebrations in one of New York City’s most iconic summer destinations.
