When she was just 26 weeks pregnant, this young mom unexpectedly went into labor.

Although only 24 years old, Demi Crozier, from Newcastle, England, had previously been diagnosed with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), a condition that significantly reduced her chances of becoming pregnant.

Then came the wonderful surprise she had always hoped for. Not only was Demi expecting a baby, but an ultrasound revealed she was carrying twin girls.

According to Demi, aside from needing more frequent prenatal checkups and one baby, Aarielle, measuring smaller than expected, the pregnancy had been progressing smoothly—until she suddenly went into labor at 26 weeks.

Demi recalled: “I was awake all night and told my mum I thought I was in labor. We rushed to the Royal Victoria Hospital, and the doctors told me I was already 8cm dilated.

“I was terrified because I didn’t want my babies to arrive so early. I had only just found out they were girls, and I hadn’t even had time to prepare anything for them. I was completely overwhelmed.”

A short time later, Aarielle and Aabriella entered the world weighing just 566 grams and 822 grams.

Demi said: “Aarielle was born still inside the amniotic sac and had no heartbeat. The doctors worked tirelessly to revive her, and about an hour later, her heart started beating again. She was then transferred to Freeman Hospital for urgent heart surgery. Meanwhile, Aabriella remained in the neonatal intensive care unit at the hospital.”

Although the twins arrived 14 weeks earlier than expected, their remarkable determination amazed everyone around them. At three months old, both girls were well enough to go home. They still needed breathing support, but they continued to make encouraging progress.

Today, Demi’s daughters are 11 months old, and both are thriving. Aabriella loves being cuddled to sleep, while Aarielle weighed 4.9kg at 11 months.

Demi shared that she plans to celebrate the twins’ first birthday at the end of June.

“Although Aabriella and Aarielle still can’t sit up on their own yet, the specialists are very pleased with the progress they’ve made. They’re doing incredibly well.

“To me, Aabriella and Aarielle are little miracles. Even after almost a year, I still can’t believe they’re here. We’re looking forward to celebrating their very first birthday together in a truly special way,” the proud mother added.
