Meredith Gaudreau Mourns Loss of Dog Kingy Weeks Before Second Anniversary of Late Husband Johnny’s Death: ‘With John Now’
Meredith Gaudreau is honoring a special member of her family after his death. The mother of three took to her Instagram account on Tuesday, Aug. 4, sharing photos of her late dog, Kingy, after his death.
“Through it all my boy 🖤. With John now,” she captioned the post. “So many good pics, some of my favorites 😘. Love you forever my Kingy.”In the shared images, Meredith showcased Kingy’s close bond with her late husband, NHL star Johnny Gaudreau. Kingy’s death comes two years to the month that Meredith’s husband Johnny tragically died while bike riding with his brother, Matthew Gaudreau, while in New Jersey for their sister’s wedding on Aug. 29, 2024.The brothers were killed by an alleged drunk driver, leaving behind their wives and children. Meredith and Johnny, who was playing for the Columbus Blue Jackets at the time of his death, shared kids Noa, 3, and Johnny Jr., 2, and Meredith was pregnant with their son, Carter, now 1.
Meredith’s sister-in-law, Madeline Gaudreau, was also pregnant at the time of their deaths, and welcomed son Tripp Matthew Gaudreau just four months later. Tripp is now 19 months old.
On Monday, Madeline shared an emotional tribute to her late husband Matthew just weeks before the second anniversary of his death.
Madeline posted a photo from her July 2021 wedding to Matthew, who also played ice hockey, writing, “You gave me the best life. We miss you.”
Johnny and Matthew’s sister, Katie Gaudreau-Joyce, and her husband, Devin Joyce, welcomed son Matthew Guy Joyce, named after his late uncle, on June 20.

The Gaudreau family has continued to show their support for U.S. hockey since the deaths of Johnny and Matthew, cheering on the men’s team at the Milano Cortina Winter Olympics earlier this year.
Johnny would have represented Team USA at the 2026 Winter Olympics if not for his August 2024 death. His father, Guy Gaudreau, said USA Hockey had told the family their eldest son was on the projected roster, per ESPN.

“In that final summer, John was training harder than ever, with his dad, pushing himself to be in the best shape of his life. He was determined to earn his spot on that Olympic roster,” the Gaudreau family said in a statement at the time.
Johnny’s jersey hung in the locker room as Team USA scored Olympic gold.
