Florida Woman Arrested After 36 Border Collies Found in Filthy Home

A 62-year-old Florida woman has been arrested following an investigation into the conditions in which dozens of dogs were being kept at her home in Palm City.

Authorities identified the woman as Paige O’Donnell, a resident of Martin County, where investigators discovered 36 Border Collies living inside the house.

According to officials, the dogs were found in extremely unsanitary conditions; feces, urine, trash, and debris were scattered throughout the home. Some of the dogs reportedly had severely matted fur caked with feces and urine.

The situation led to an animal cruelty investigation, with authorities alleging that the dogs had not received adequate care.

Ms. O’Donnell faces a total of 72 charges related to the 36 dogs. The charges include 36 felony counts of animal cruelty and 36 misdemeanor counts related to the failure to provide sufficient exercise or fresh air.

The charges are currently proceeding through the legal system, and Ms. O’Donnell is presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.

Following the discovery, the Humane Society of the Treasure Coast took custody of all 36 dogs. Staff and volunteers are now working to restore their health and provide the care they previously lacked.

The dogs are undergoing bathing, the removal of severely matted fur, medical treatment, proper nutrition, and other necessary care as part of their recovery process. For animal welfare workers, caring for 36 dogs simultaneously is a major challenge, especially given that many require urgent medical attention and complex grooming.

The incident also highlights the importance of reporting suspected cases of animal neglect before the situation becomes life-threatening for the animals.

While the criminal case proceeds, the rescued Border Collies remain under the care of animal welfare experts, who are focusing on their recovery and preparing them for a safer, healthier future.
