“HAPPY FIRST DAY OF HIGH SCHOOL, WILL” — A MOTHER’S HEARTBREAKING TRIBUTE LEAVES THOUSANDS IN TEARS

“HAPPY FIRST DAY OF HIGH SCHOOL, WILL” — A MOTHER’S HEARTBREAKING TRIBUTE LEAVES THOUSANDS IN TEARS

Tens of thousands of people once stood beside Will Roberts and his family during his courageous cancer journey.

Today, they stood with them again — this time through heartbreak.

Because August was supposed to mark a brand-new chapter.

It was supposed to be Will Roberts’ first day of high school.

A day filled with pictures.

A proud mom watching her son take another step forward.

A brother teasing his little sister.

A family making memories they would treasure forever.

But instead, Brittney Roberts faced a morning no mother should ever have to endure.

She dropped off her daughter, Charlie, for her first day of 7th grade…

Then she drove to visit the place where her high schooler now rests.

Sharing a photo from Will’s grave, Brittney wrote the words that captured the pain of a mother missing the life her son should have lived.

“I should have been taking pictures of BOTH of my kids this morning. Will would have been complaining, Charlie would have been laughing, and I would have been hollering for everybody to hurry up.”

Instead of walking beside her big brother into another school year, Charlie had to begin this new chapter without him.

And for Brittney, that was the moment that hurt the most.

“Charlie is still growing up and having all these firsts without the big brother who was supposed to be growing up right beside her,” she shared.

Will Roberts touched thousands of lives during his battle with stage 4 bone cancer.

People across the country prayed for him.

They followed his journey.

They celebrated his courage.

And they surrounded his family with love when the 15-year-old lost his fight last month.

But grief does not end after saying goodbye.

It returns in unexpected moments.

On the first day of school.

On birthdays.

During holidays.

In ordinary mornings that were supposed to feel completely different.

A missing voice.

An empty seat.

A memory of what should have been.

Still, Brittney chose to honor both of her children with words filled with love:

“Happy first day of 7th grade, Charlie.

And happy first day of high school, Will.”

Today, a community remembers a young man who showed incredible strength far beyond his years.

A son.

A brother.

A fighter.

A teenager whose story brought people together.

Please keep Brittney, Charlie, and everyone who loves and misses Will in your prayers as they continue carrying his memory through every milestone ahead.

Rest peacefully, Will Roberts.

Your first day of high school may not have happened the way it was supposed to…

But your story continues to inspire thousands.
