HAYDEN PANETTIERE’S DEATH COMES AS FATHER WAS JUST BEGINNING TO HEAL FROM SON JANSEN’S 2023 DEATH

PIERMONT, NEW YORK — Hayden Panettiere’s sudden death has delivered another devastating blow to a family that was still grieving the loss of her younger brother, Jansen Panettiere, who died in 2023.

Hayden, the actress known for her roles in Heroes and Nashville, died Sunday at the age of 36 after she was found unresponsive at an apartment in Greenville, South Carolina. Her death remains under investigation, and authorities have not yet determined an official cause or manner of death.

For her father, Alan “Skip” Panettiere, the loss came after what neighbors described as a period when he was only beginning to recover from the death of his son.

A FATHER WHO HAD ALREADY LOST HIS SON

Jansen Panettiere, Hayden’s younger brother, died in February 2023 at age 28.

His family later said he died from complications associated with an enlarged heart, including aortic valve complications.

The loss reportedly hit Skip particularly hard.

According to neighbors cited by the New York Post, Hayden’s father had withdrawn from parts of his community following Jansen’s death. More recently, however, people who knew him said they had begun seeing signs that he was slowly returning to everyday life.

Then came another devastating phone call.

HAYDEN’S DEATH SHOCKS THE FAMILY

Hayden was found unresponsive in Greenville on August 16.

Emergency responders attempted advanced life support at the scene, but she could not be revived. She was pronounced dead at approximately 2:32 p.m.

An autopsy reportedly found no signs of trauma, but officials have not yet established a cause or manner of death. Toxicology testing is expected to play an important role in determining what happened.

Authorities have not announced that her death was a homicide.

Hayden began working as an actress when she was still a child and eventually became internationally recognized for playing Claire Bennet on Heroes and Juliette Barnes on Nashville.

But behind the celebrity career was a deeply complicated personal life.

In recent years, Panettiere had spoken openly about addiction, postpartum depression, trauma and the pressures of growing up in Hollywood. She also experienced the devastating loss of her brother.

Her 2026 memoir, This Is Me: A Reckoning, addressed many of those struggles and her efforts to rebuild her life.

HER FATHER’S SECOND DEVASTATING LOSS

Hayden’s death now leaves Skip Panettiere facing a loss that few parents could imagine: losing two children only a few years apart.

In a statement released after Hayden’s death, her father asked the public to give the family privacy as they process what he described as an “unimaginable loss.” He remembered his daughter as an extraordinary presence who brought love and joy to those around her.

For a father who was reportedly only beginning to emerge from the grief of losing Jansen, Hayden’s death represents another devastating chapter.

First he lost his son. Now, just three years later, he has lost his daughter. And a family already carrying one unbearable grief is once again facing an unimaginable loss.
